Goldie Hershberger

Goldie I. Hershberger, 98, of St. Paul and a former Walnut resident, passed away at 6:47 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

She was born on April 30, 1921 at Attica, Kansas to John and Alta (Martin) Arnold. She grew up at Wichita and Attica and attended schools there.

Goldie moved to Walnut in 1938 and then to St. Paul in 1998. She was a homemaker and worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant in Parsons during World War II. She also drove a car for senior citizens transportation while living in Walnut.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, puzzles, making pies, and most of all her grandchildren. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Walnut and at St. Paul, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 170 in Chanute and Post No. 292 at Walnut. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Walnut Chapter.

She and Lawrence W. “Shorty” Hershberger were married on July 6, 1937 at Medicine Lodge, Kansas. He preceded her on September 12, 2001.








She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Deweese of Chanute and Linda Wilson of Erie; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Valgene Arnold; her sister, Opal Doolin; a grandson, Larry Deweese; and a son-in-law, Butch Leroy Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in St. Paul with Pastor Mark Demas officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 5 Sunday evening. Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the Prairie Mission Retirement Village Activity Fund and these may be left in care of the Carson-Wall Funeral Home 403 Main St., St. Paul, KS 66733.
