Ryan Phillips

Earnest Ryan Phillips, age 64, a resident of Fort Scott, KS, and more recently of Lake Frances, Redfield, KS, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO. Ryan was born July 2, 1954, in Wellington, KS, the son of Ernest Phillips and Hazel Lemon Phillips. He graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree.

He married Shannon Petty on May 31, 1980. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2004. He married Kathleen Miller Hermreck on June 28, 2008. Ryan was career military having served 21 years in the Air Force and Marine Corp. He was a member of the Community Christian Church. He loved to fish, hunt and follow Cardinal baseball. His passion was to witness about Jesus to anyone around him especially children and grandchildren. 








Survivors include his wife, Kate, of the home; a son, James Ryan Phillips, Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Sarah Schilling, Broomfield, CO, and Laura Fraley, Lenexa, KS; three step-sons, Gene Hermreck, Levi Hermreck and John Hermreck; two step-daughters, Jessica Zillner and Amy Sitler. Also surviving are three sisters, Norma Jean Martin, Arkansas City, KS, Vicky Hernandez, Wichita, KS and Carolyn Hain, Wellington, KS; 24 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Phillips.

Rev. Kevin Moyers assisted by Tim Woodring will conduct funeral services at 11:30 A.M. Friday in the Community Christian Church. Burial will follow in U. S. National Cemetery with Military Honors. Red Troll

Eugene Norbert “Red” Troll, age 86, a resident of Nevada, Missouri, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri. Red was born December 22, 1931, in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Eugene Carl Troll and Lottie Clue Rettinghouse.

He graduated from Julian High School in 1949. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. Red married Bonnie Beasley on September 15, 1956 in Butler, Missouri. In his younger years Red was a Rodeo Cowboy competing in bronc riding and team roping. He was part owner of a Dune Buggy racing team that raced in the desert between California and Mexico. He loved to play football while in the Army at Fort Riley; when the family moved to San Diego, he was a season ticket holder for the Chargers before they were part of the N.F.L. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Red enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time with his family. He was secretly a Jitterbug King. 








Survivors include his wife Bonnie, of the home; two sons, Robert Troll, Oregon, and Gerald Troll, of Missouri; two daughters, Catherine Stevenson (Harold), of Arkansas, and Karolyn Jean McEntee (Jerry), of Michigan; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; he was preceded in death by his parents.

John Haggenbuth will conduct funeral services at 12:30 P.M. Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart post #1165 V.F.W. Don Vaughan

Donald King Vaughan, 78, of Pittsburg, KS, went to heaven to be with his Lord on April 25, 2019 after suffering a short illness. He was born November 22, 1940 in Joplin, MO and was the son and only child of Dr. John Paul Vaughan and Juanita (Masquelier) Vaughan.

On June 3, 1961, Don was united in marriage to Carol Sue Kelly in Joplin, MO. They later divorced. Don worked for the city of Pittsburg as the City Engineer for 44 years after graduating from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pittsburg. Don also enjoyed fishing, golfing and collecting antique glassware.








Survivors include two daughters: Vicki Highfield (and husband Sam) of Eureka Springs, AR and Debbie King of Oklahoma City, OK; a son, Kelly Vaughan (and wife Marlea) of Waxhaw, NC; six grandchildren including Dustin Highfield, Samantha Highfield-Tarter, Ryann Vaughan-Owens, Nolan Vaughan, Kendall Vaughan, and Kelsee King-Bethke along with a great granddaughter Evalie Vaughan Owens. Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10am, Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home with Pastor Corey Estep officiating. Burial will be held at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin later that day. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8pm on Tuesday evening, April 30, 2019. Gladys Potts

Gladys Irene Potts, 100, of Midland, TX, formerly of Cherryvale and Parsons, KS, died at 12:24 A.M., Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the Helen Greathouse Assisted Living Facility in Midland.

She was born to John Thomas and Harriett Ann Blackburn on February 1, 1919 and was one of ten siblings. Gladys grew up on a farm near Dennis, Kansas and was a graduate of Dennis High School.

Following graduation from high school she married Clarence Lee Potts on January 5, 1938 in Neosho,Missouri and they were married for sixty-seven years prior to his death on November 25, 2006. Two children were born to this union, a son Bobby and a daughter, Sharon. Clarence and Gladys resided on farms in the Dennis area following their marriage.

Gladys was a housewife until she started working at Renfro’s Clothing Store in Cherryvale for Joe and Eulah Renfro in 1966. In 1970 she became assistant manager of Willard's when Opal and Don Willard purchased the store. In 1984 she became manager of the store and remained as such until her retirement in December 1989. During her younger years she was an active 4-H leader and taught sewing.










Upon the death of her husband, Gladys moved to Midland, Texas where she remained until her passing. Survivors include son Bobby Potts and his wife, Vicki, daughter, Sharon Wesley and her husband, John. Four grandsons, Lee, Robert, Jeffrey, and Derek and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband and three brothers and six sisters.

During her lifetime, she loved to sew, quilt, crewel embroider, garden and tend to flowers.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Manor Park-Helen Greathouse Assisted Living, staff of Manor Park Skilled Rehabilitation facility, Hospice of Midland and Visiting Angels for the support and care given.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Marty Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home. Angela Clark

Angela Jo Clark, age 50, a resident of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born November 25, 1968, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Richard Francis Pent and Janice Ilene Smith Pent. Angela graduated from the Ft. Scott High School with the Class of 1987.

She married Kevin Clark on June 3, 2006, in Ft. Scott. Angela worked as an insurance customer service representative for Epoch Group and then Cobalt. 

She was currently employed by Cognizant. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and trying to beat her husband, Kevin, at Phase 10. She also liked to read romance novels and make regular shopping trips to Wal-Mart. 










Survivors include her husband, Kevin, of the home; her son, Mitchell Pent and wife, Rebecca and their daughter, Kairi, of Park City, Kansas; her two daughters, Kelsey Grubb and husband, Sam, and their child, Sammy, of Ft. Scott, Kansas; and Amber Ripple and husband, Steven, and their children, Olivia and Maverick, also of Ft. Scott; two step-sons, Jerry Schultz and wife, Lisa, and their children, Hunter, Haydon, Libby, Jessica, Jordan, Mercedes and Koltan, of Ft. Scott; Steven Schultz and his daughter, Danyelle, of Chanute and a stepdaughter, Amanda Wolfe and her children, Breana, Chloe, Caleb, Tanner and Mason, of Chanute, Kansas. Also surviving are her mother, Janice Pent, of Ft. Scott, a brother, Patrick Pent, of Gardner, Kansas and two sisters, Ronda Eastwood of Overland Park, Kansas and Tracy Jordan, of Hamilton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Richard Pent, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 29th at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Cindy Peak

Cynthia Sue (Cindy) Peak, 70, died on April 20, 2019 at the Girard Medical Center; she had been in poor health for several years.

Cindy was born on April 4, 1949, in Girard, Kansas, to Bill and Betty (Brentari) Peak; they preceded her in death. After graduating Girard High School in 1967, she relocated to Wichita and then to Miami, Florida, where she had a successful career in business forms while becoming a state and regional tennis champion. 

Returning to Girard in the mid-1980s, and having inherited her Dad’s love of horses, she established a very successful horse breeding operation at her ranch, while also raising her own National Champion quarter horses. 

In the late 1990s she relocated her horse business to Texas, buying a nationally-known quarter horse and later managing several horse ranches. She returned to Girard again in 2014. Cindy loved visiting with family and the large circle of friends accumulated over her lifetime; she never met a stranger and had deep affection for animals. 








She is survived by her second mom, Jo Peak, of the family home in Girard; six brothers – Ken (spouse Kathy, Sparks, NV), Larry Martin (Deb, Ft. Scott), Dan (Diane, Girard), Dale (Cesare, Charlestown, MA), Denny ( Linda, Andover), and Chad (Girard); two sisters - Joyce Johnson (Ken, Farlington) and Sarah Kirk (Nathan, Girard); and many Peak family nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service and Rosary will be held at Smith-Carson Wall Funeral Home 518 W. St. John in Girard, at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 9, 2019, followed by a reception at St. Michael’s Hall. A private graveside service will follow at a later time.

Bea Huber

Beatrice (Bea) Huber, 89, of Girard, died at 1:50 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in WestRidge Retirement Community in Girard.

She was born September 26, 1929 in Ulysses, Kansas, a daughter of Carl and Alice (Oswalt) Coons.

Bea grew up in Hepler and graduated from Hepler High School in 1947 where she served as class valedictorian. 

She married Ken Huber on May 18, 1947 in Hepler. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1997.

Bea was an avid sports enthusiast who participated in volleyball, softball, golf, and bowling in her younger years. She followed local sporting events and was the official scorekeeper for the Girard Trojans Softball Team for over 10 years.

Bea worked as bank teller, head cashier, and later as a vice president at the First National Bank in Girard, retiring after 29 years.

Bea was a member of the First Christian Church in Hepler before it closed in 1981. She enjoyed her family, family gatherings, and attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s school activities.








Survivors are a son, Ron Huber of Girard; a daughter, Debra (Huber) Brodbeck (Leonard) of Girard; her grandchildren, Daniel Brodbeck (Sara) of Girard, Kevin Huber (Abbi) of Girard, Julie (Brodbeck) Sneed (Dustin) of Girard, Miranda (Huber) Hallacy (Ronnie) of Walnut, and Megan (Huber) Thompson (John) of Keller, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brodbeck, Haylee Sneed, Gavin Huber, Kaylie Huber, Luke Sneed, Kylie Hallacy, Keaton Huber, Allison Huber, Erin Huber, Stella Thompson, Kason Hallacy, Shane Huber, and Ozzie Brodbeck; her brother, Bud Coons (Inez) of Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sisters Betty Dunkel-Hunt and Barbara Malcom.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott with Mike Armstrong officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Thursday.

Tom Westcott

Thomas Loren “Tom” Westcott, 67, died at 1:37 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

He was born on October 29, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Robert Leroy “Bob” and Margaret S. “Peggy” (Sweeney) Westcott. They preceded him in death.

Tom grew up in Chicago and graduated from Morgan Park High School. He lived in Chicago area most of his life until moving to Parsons in 1995.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.








Tom is survived by his brother James “Jim” Westcott who will inter his ashes next to his father at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Galesburg, Kansas.

No services are planned. The Carson-Wall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Earlene Randles, 79, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at Arma, KS.

She was united in marriage to Leroy Randles. He preceded her in death.

Earlene is survived two sons, Gerald Lucas of Pittsburg, KS and Ken Lucas of Burgess, MO; two daughters, Debbie Horton of Kansas City, MO and Jolene Largent of Pittsburg, KS, and numerous grandchildren.







In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and three sisters.

Kevin Ausemus

Kevin L. Ausemus, 48, of Pittsburg, Kansas passed away at 6:45 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his home.

Kevin was born January 5, 1971 in Girard, Kansas, a son of Harold and Sharon (Threlfall) Ausemus.

He attended school in Girard, graduating from the Girard High School. 

On November 20, 1999, Kevin was united in marriage to Rachel Leritz, they later divorced.

Kevin was a construction laborer by trade, he supervised the construction of many steel buildings in the four state area.

He loved his family and enjoyed watching them participate in many of their sporting events. He also enjoyed watching and participating in all types of sports. He was gifted in many areas of repair and building and was the first to help others when he saw a need.








Kevin is survived by one son, Quintin Ausemus of Girard, one daughter, Makaila Ausemus of Girard, three brothers, Gary Ausemus and his wife Veronica of Pittsburg, Kansas, Ron Ausemus of Dallas, Texas, Gerald Threlfall and his wife Heather of Frontenac, Kansas, three sisters, Debbie Grosstephen and her husband Brad of Girard, Jan Azember and her husband Gerald of Girard, and Terry Smith and her husband Gregg of Girard. 

Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. 

A visitation for Kevin L. Ausemus will be Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard.

Patricia Steffens

Patricia (DeLange) Steffens, 80, of Fort Scott, Kansas, passed away at 5:17 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Medicalodge of Girard.

She was born August 7, 1938 in Girard, Kansas a daughter of Verdan and Ruth (Graham) DeLange. She graduated from Girard High School and the University of Oklahoma. She received her Master’s degree from Kansas State Teachers College, now PSU, and her PhD from Kansas State University. She taught Special Education at Pittsburg High School and Parsons State Hospital before joining Crawford County Extension Service Food and Nutrition Education Program. From 1987 until 1999, she was University of Nebraska State Extension Specialist in Family Life Education. She retired from the University of Nebraska as Professor Emeritus. 

She married John Steffens in 1957 and later they divorced.








She enjoyed fishing, home restoration, and spending time at the lake with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters Paula Heidrick (Greg) of Cary, North Carolina and Pam Franklin (Buddy) of Girard; and son, Jay Steffens (Bobbie) of North Platte, Nebraska; her grandchildren Adam Heidrick (Jodi), Sarah Cole (Korry), Shane Franklin, Scott Franklin (Joane), and T. J. Franklin (Addi), Alex Steffens, Alysa Maline (Alex), Ayden Steffens; eight great-grandchildren; a brother Pete DeLange (Jane), of Girard; a sister Betty Miller (Joe), of Tallahassee, Florida.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Girard Cemetery with Pastor Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Burial will follow the services and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 Tuesday.

Angela Turlot

Angela (Annie) Dawn (Hubbard) Turlot, age 43 from Girard Kansas died Saturday April 13, 2019 at home.

She was born to Sandra (Brees) Hubbard and the late Alfred Hubbard. She married Scott K Miller and later divorced. They had one son together, Andrew Miller of the home. 

She married Daniel Turlot February 16, 2008. Angela has 3 brothers Robert Brees of Dennis Ks, Richard Hubbard of Frontenac Ks, Steven Hubbard of Frontenac Ks and one sister Ginger Foster and husband Larry Foster of Pittsburg. She has many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. 

She will be cremated and services will be held at graveside in Girard, Ks at a later date. People attending will meet at the cemetery.

Jeff Smith

Jeffery L. “Jeff” Smith, 71, of rural Cherryvale, passed away 1:30 a.m., Thursday, April 17, 2019 at his home.

Jeff was born on December 27, 1947 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Charles T. Loraine (Hamilton) Smith. He traveled with his family and lived in several different states during his childhood while his father was in the military before moving to Dennis in 1960. He attended Labette County schools and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1966.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He was in Vietnam during most of service time. He played semi-pro football while in the service and finished two year of college at the University of Maryland and at Labette Community College.

On January 14, 1972 he was united in marriage to Terry Rinne at Parsons. She survives of the home. They had three children, Stephanie, Jennifer, and Little Jeff. Stephanie and Little Jeff went to be with the Lord on April 28, 1993 and on October 15, 1996.

Jeff loved farming and it was in his blood. In addition to farming he worked at Funk Manufacturing as a Maintenance Mechanic for 29 years. He retired in 2008.

Jeff and Terry really enjoyed vacationing together in Colorado, snow skiing, camping, and visiting their daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Paul. Jeff was always ready to help he helped so many. He was a born again Christian accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.








In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Paul Lillie of Fort Collins, CO; his brother, Charles Smith, and his wife, Sherry of Cherokee; his sisters, Connie Meyers, and her husband, Dan of Marshall, TX and Laura Myers, and her husband Ernie of rural Parsons; his mother-in-law, Rose Mary Rinne of Independence; his brothers-in-law, Fred Rinne, and his wife, LaWanda of Fredonia and Tom Rinne of Sycamore; his sister-in-law, Trudy Rinne, and her husband, Bob of Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews. Jeff will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis with Reverend Keith Springer officiating. Burial will follow. Military honors will be conducted by the Brown-Bishop Post. No. 704 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons. David Ashcraft

David Bird Ashcraft, age 72, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at his home following a brief cancer illness. He was born April 23, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Jay Ashcraft and Helen Ashcraft.

He married Sharon Colvin on January 25, 1978. Dave owned and operated his own business, Ashcraft Pest Control, for over fifty years and which continues on today. Dave grew up in Silverton, Colorado where he participated in cowboy reenactments for tourists and loved all things western and Native American including collecting arrowheads and Indian artifacts and watching old westerns on tv. He also enjoyed hunting, especially elk hunting during his many trips to Silverton and Durango, Colorado. Dave was known for his kindness, generosity and friendly personality. He loved people and never met a stranger. Dave especially loved his family and spending time with them. We will miss our dear Papa. 








Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home; five children, Margie O’Dell, of Pittsburg, Kansas, Jocie Clary and husband, Tim, of Smithton, Missouri, Shelly Shelton and husband, Dale, of Ft. Scott, Kansas, Tammy Pruitt and husband, Terry, also of Ft. Scott and David Allen Tauber and wife, Casey, of Rogers, Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Dan Ashcraft, of Wichita, Kansas and Richard Ashcraft, of Topeka, Kansas and his loyal canine companion, Tug. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Becky Tauber and Ruth Ann Ashcraft.

Following cremation, a private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Centerville Cemetery near Devon, Kansas. Justin Roberts

Justin Paul Roberts 61, of Parsons, passed away at 8:50 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born on August 29, 1957 at Wichita, Kansas to Justin and Madgelene Roberts of Wichita.

Justin is survived by four sisters; Joyce Elmarry of Wichita, Earlene Beshears of Wichita, Melanie Grissom of Newton, Kansas and Amanda Lucas of Redfield, Kansas. He leaves behind a host of extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.

He loved everyone at S.K.I.L. and was known as the “Candyman” to all of them. He grew up with six sisters and loved them all dearly. Justin loved life, family, friends, and most of all he loved God and wanted everyone to love God like he did. He loved from a pure heart and didn’t know a stranger. He loved to fish, watch Christian TV, older comedies such as Andy Griffith, and drinking coffee.








Justin was preceded in death by his parents, Justin and Madgelene Roberts of Wichita and his sisters, Dolores Torres of Takoma, WA and Nancy Gressett of Decatur, MS.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Christie Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Mary Wallace

Mary Alice Wallace, age 92, a resident of Forsyth, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, in Forsythe. She was born January 21, 1927, in Hartville, Missouri, the daughter of Efton Newton and Velma Gladys Fuge Newton.

She married William Arthur Wallace on December 14, 1945, in Springfield, Missouri. Bill and Mary made their home in Wichita, Kansas for several years. Bill’s job with KG&E moved their family to Ft. Scott, Kansas in 1961. While in Ft. Scott, Mary worked for Rosebrough’s Shoes and later for Newman Young Clinic. She was a member of the Community Christian Church in Ft. Scott. Following Bill’s death on August 8, 1988, Mary moved to Wichita where she made her home for nearly thirty years. She recently moved to Forsyth. 










Survivors include her son, Bill Wallace and wife, Cheryl, of Forsythe; and two daugthers, Jeanette Boggs, of Wichita and Janelle McCormack and husband, Eddie, of Hays, Kansas; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild due in September. Also surviving a sister-in-law, Marianna Newton, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Geneva Newton; a brother, J. C. Newton and a granddaughter.

Rev. Leon Weece will conduct funeral services at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 17th at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private burial will take place in the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, Kansas. John Harryman

John Evans Harryman, age 74, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, KS. He was born on October 10, 1944, in Metz, MO, the son of Guy Franklin Harryman, Sr. and Irene Dulcina McClintock Harryman.

John served our country in the Navy, joining at age 17. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering. He married Linda Harper on October 4, 1969, in Devon, KS. John worked as a quality control manager for Kenworth in Kansas City, MO. He then worked for Shepherd Team Auto Plaza in Ft. Scott as parts manager. He later worked for Superior Wheel in Pittsburg, KS, as quality control manager until retirement. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing, bowling, race cars, motorcycles and all types of good music. He loved spending time with his family, especially attending all the grandkid’s activities and sports. He was a member of Diamond Community Church. 








Survivors include his wife Linda of the home; a daughter, Michelle Harrison, Ft. Scott; and a son, Johnny Harryman and wife Molly, Ft. Scott; five grandchildren, Eddie Harryman, Lucas Harryman, Corina Harrison, Ellen Harrison and Jennifer Harrison; one great granddaughter, Charley West; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Franklin, Jr.; two sisters, Frances Threatt and Margaret Myers; and his parents.

Rev. Jimmy Tucker will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 18th, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery, Devon, KS. Suzanne Street

Suzanne Street, 72, of Fort Scott, passed away at her home Saturday evening, April 13, 2019. She was born June 27, 1946, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Carl S. and Martina D. (Kirker) Street.

Suzanne graduated from Fort Scott High School with the Class of 63. She also attended and graduated from Pittsburg State University, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She held a BA in Foreign Languages, and an MA in Spanish. She taught for forty years in Rich Hill, Missouri; Chanute, Kansas; Holden, Missouri; Tonganoxie, Kansas; Iola, Kansas, and Fort Scott, retiring in 2013. Suzanne managed the bookstore at the Fort Scott National Historic Site and did volunteer work. She was a member of Area Women Educators (AWE), Iola Symphony Orchestra, and Fort Scott Area Orchestra. She traveled to several European countries with students and family.








Suzanne is survived by her sister, Carla J. Felt, of Fort Scott; nephew Carson Felt and wife Morgan, and great-niece Ryker Felt, all of Fort Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Following cremation, the family will have a Celebration of Life Visitation Thursday evening, April 18, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Alan Scott

Alan G. Scott, 65, of Pittsburg, passed away at 12:10 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg.

He was born June 17, 1953, at Pittsburg, KS, the son of Clarence Scott and Anna Maxine(Grotheer) Scott. Alan graduated from Pittsburg High School.

In 1980 he was united in marriage to Wilma Lucus, they later divorced. Alan worked for McNally’s, Dickey Clay, and National Mills.

He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.








Alan is survived by two daughters, Laura Julian and her husband Dennis of Pittsburg, KS, and Elizabeth Scott of Pulaski, VA; a son, Brian Scott of Pittsburg, KS; a brother, Stanley Scott of Scammon, KS; four grandchildren, Bailey Julian, Cory Julian, Brittnee Julian and Brooke Carroll.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Steve Scott.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary. Private services will be held at a later date.

Carrie Jameison

Carrie B. Jameison, 104, of Pittsburg, KS died on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at her home.

She was born May 30, 1914 in Hurtsboro, AL the daughter of Howard and Carrie (Robinson) Ross.

She moved to Croweburg with her family in 1924. She attended grade school at Croweburg and graduated from Cockerill High School.

On April 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Cornelius Jameison in Girard, KS; he preceded her in death on June 29, 1983.

She was a member of the Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church.








Survivors include a daughter Dorothy Pitts and her husband Lawrence of Raytown, MO, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Herbert K. Ross, step-son Cornelius Jameison, Jr., six brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be 11am Wednesday April 17, 2019 at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS. Larry Fennern

Larry Fennern, 69, of Cherokee, KS, died at 1:40 P.M. Thursday, April 11, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, MO.

Hewas born October 5, 1949, at Pittsburg, KS, to George and Ethel (Kennett) Fennern. He attended Pittsburg Schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School. Larry then graduated from Kansas Teachers College Electrical Vocation School.

Larry was drafted in the United States Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1971. He was also in the Army National Guard for many years

On December 23, 1970, he was united in marriage to Julie Prewett. She preceded him in death on October 5, 1979. On August 4, 1984, he was united in marriage to Lori Hills. She survives of the home.

Larry worked for 30 years at Pittsburg State University as an electrician and in the housing and maintenance department. Larry was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed taking trips with his son. He also enjoyed camping and fishing local pits, lakes and trout fishing at Bennett Springs. He also enjoyed hunting and was proud of his military service.








In addition to his wife Lori, he is survived by a son Jeff Fennern of Pittsburg, KS; two half-sisters, Linda Waite and her husband Mike of Minneapolis, MN, and Diane Melton and her husband Scott of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Julie.

Graveside services will be 12:30 P.M. Wednesday (April 17) at the Fort Scott National Cemetery with Pastor K.O. Noonoo officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to S.E.K. Humane Society and/or Salvation Army. Pat Morton

Patricia A. (Pat) Morton, 84, of Parsons, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor, where she had been in failing health the past few months.

Born February 21, 1935 in Cherryvale to Harry and Elsie (Hucke) Winslow, Pat spent her early years in Cherryvale and Neodesha before moving to Parsons with her family in 1939. She attended Parsons schools and graduated from Parsons High School. She later went back to pursue an A.A. degree and graduated from Labette Community College in 1988 with a degree in Business Industrial Supervision. 

Pat married Cledith Morton on March 23, 1968 and they were together 25 years before his passing on September 16, 1994.

She held a variety of jobs in Parsons including the Parsons Clinic, the U.S. Census Bureau, Commercial Publishers and at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant providing accounting and bookkeeping services.

Her love of life was reflected in her tireless efforts in helping others. She participated as a community volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women and an active member and committee member in various church committees. She was a Sunday School teacher and a long-term volunteer at the Youth Crisis Center in Parsons where she shared her love of God and spirituality with all of the children she met.
Pat had a strong desire for adventure while helping others. She went to Panama on a Christian mission to help underprivileged children. The highlight of her life was an extensive trip to Israel to visit the sacred sights and learn more about the Holy Land. She spoke often of her amazing experiences from that trip.

A member of Mt. Zion Community Church in Cherryvale, Pat shared her spiritual life and energy with family and friends and will always be remembered for her strong faith, compassion and unconditional love of everyone she met.







She is survived by her sister, Carol Winslow, her sisters-in-law Nora Winslow and Forrestine Winslow; and eleven nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were brothers and sisters, Robert W. Winslow, Emma Jean Hilding, Zelma Stoll and Thomas W. Winslow.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Marty Warren officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in her name to the Parkinson Foundation at www.parkinson.org.

Ellen Pennekamp

Ellen Catherine (Krentz) Pennekamp was called home to heaven by our loving God on April 9, 2019.

Ellen was born on December 24, 1925, in Laporte, Indiana, to Erich and Callie (Meuschke) Krentz. She attended Valparaiso University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1948.

Ellen and Eugene Pennekamp were married on June 18, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LaPorte, IN. In the years that followed, God blessed them with 6 children. Ellen graciously served as a pastor’s wife in Lutheran congregations in Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas. She dearly loved Jesus and shared His love freely with everyone through her wonderful smile, kind nature and unconditional, unselfish love. She was faithful in prayer and Bible study and loved to sing. She was a master in the kitchen and was especially known for her coffeecake, rolls, pies and applesauce, which she loved to share with family and friends. Her happiest times were family get togethers, even if all she did was watch the fun.








Ellen is survived by children, Paul (Linda) Pennekamp, Owasso, OK, Deborah (John) Matthew, Wichita, KS, Lois (Mike) Farrell, Atchison, KS, Rebecca (Dean) Aurich, Waverly, MN, and Sarah (Mike) Accorsi, Mansfield Center, CT; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Annette (Richard) Larson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; son, John; brothers, Carl and Paul; and sisters, Evelyn and Emily.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, Monday, April 15, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Girard, KS, with the Rev. Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Roy Hanken

Roy Reed Hanken, Jr, 86, formerly of Fort Scott, passed away April 3, 2019, in Millington, Tennessee. He was born October 23, 1932, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Roy Reed and Ethel (Hartman) Hanken, Sr. He married Phyllis Jean Bettinghaus June 12, 1954, in Springfield, Illinois, and she preceded him in death December 26, 2014.

Roy served in the US Air Force in 1951 and later worked for Lincoln National as a sales manager for many years until his retirement. He and Phyllis moved to Fort Scott in 1986 from New Albany, Indiana when he was transferred by American States Insurance.








Roy is survived by his son, David Paul Hanken of Bartlett, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Sara Hanken, Ian Hanken, and Hunter Hoy. In addition to his wife Phyllis, Roy was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Walter Hanken, and his daughter, Louise Ann Hoy.

Following cremation, William James Schafer will conduct services at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Fort Scott National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Detail. Mike Cooper

Michael Gene Cooper, age 68, resident of Fort Scott, KS, died Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Mercy Hospital Joplin, MO. He was born on February 23, 1951, in Fort Scott, the son of Thomas Gene and Betty JoAnn Rye Cooper.

He graduated from Nevada, MO high school with the class of 1969. He married Judy Marshall on May 19, 1969, in Fort Scott. Mike worked for Westar Energy as a designer. He loved his work and had been with the company for 38 years. 

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing video games. He was a devoted husband who loved spending time with his family. 








Survivors include his wife Judy of the home; two daughters, Stacy Leachner and husband Chad, Olathe, KS, and Cambria Scharenberg and husband Jeremy, Garland, KS; a son, Matt Cooper, Fort Scott; two sisters, Pam Speer and husband John, Redfield, KS, and Debbie Ebersold and husband Dennis, Cameron, MO; a brother, Thomas Cooper, Deerfield, MO; six grandchildren, Shana Marra, Madison Leachner, Kalen Thompson, Blaine Thompson, Taylor Cooper, and Tyler Cooper; two great grandchildren, Aubreigh Thompson and Solloman Davis; a brother-in-law Shawn Marshall and wife Chana, Fort Scott; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gene Benner

William Eugene Benner, 90, of Marquette, KS formerly of Hutchinson and Pittsburg, KS died Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Riverview Estates in Marquette, KS.

He was born August 13, 1928 in Pittsburg, KS the son of George and Susie (Steepleton) Benner.

Gene was a graduate of Pittsburg High and attended the Business College after graduation.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant.

On December 24, 1953 Gene married Norma Shepherd in Kansas City, MO; she preceded him in death on January 4, 2019.

Gene worked at the Census Bureau for the U.S Government for 33 years, he retired in 1982.

He was of the Baptist faith.










Additional survivors include his daughter, Peggy Graves of Salina, KS; two sons: Paul J. Benner of Lawrence, KS and Patrick D. Benner of Haskell, OK; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: parents, wife, 8 brothers, Walter Benner, Harvey Benner, Paul Benner, George Benner, James Benner, Leroy Benner, Earl Benner and Howard Benner, 3 sisters, Gertrude Benner, Kathryn "Sis" Carl and Wilma Lavery.

Rod Squier

Rodney Dean “Rod” Squier left the bonds of this earthly home on Friday April 5, 2019, the day he came into the presence of the Lord. Rod was born on August 11, 1954 in Newport Beach, CA to Roger and Betty (Whitehead) Squier.

As a boy, Rod worked summers at the Browning Company in the sila-flex division where his parents were employed. He loved the California life; swimming, surfing, fishing for squid with his uncle on his boat, and Grandma Squier’s homemade treats after school. Most of all he loved riding his dirt bike in the desert. Rod attended Costa Mesa High School. He threw the shot put and he always said he played water polo – “until his horse drowned”.

As a young man Rod worked at the Cla-Val Company. In the early 80’s he moved to Missouri with his wife and young family. There he learned the art of installing floor covering. Rod worked for several businesses including Cherokee Carpet in Olathe, KS and Rigdon Floor Covering of Kansas City, KS. On July 2, 1994 he married his soulmate, Susan Blackwell at the First Christian Church of Olathe, KS. With that marriage he gained two more children. In 1995, Rod was offered a job with El Dorado Floor Covering and moved his family to Cedar County, MO. He loved the country life. Rod enjoyed scouting with the boys, hunting and fishing. He loved people. The job he loved most and was most proud of was when he became and EMT. Shortly thereafter Rod was offered a job with Vernon County Ambulance, and moved again to Nevada, MO.

Rod loved to meet people, and he really loved to talk, and he loved to make people laugh. He loved the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and Nascar. He loved to ride his motorcycle all over Missouri and Kansas, but most of all Rod loved his family, especially the grandchildren.








Rod is survived by his wife, Susan, of the home in Ft. Scott, KS, six children, Josh Squier and Jenn of Bennett, CO, Shila Squier of Belton, MO, Jeremiah Squier and Julia and Erica Wilson and Ryan of Elgin, OK, James Squier and Michelle of Kansas City, KS and Sarah Wilson of Pittsburg, KS, thirteen grandchildren, Elijah, Jeneva, Aria, Xander, Caden, Napolean, Emily, Makenzi, Adrian, Millie, Jack, Evelyn, and Tucker, one brother, Mike Squier, Costa Mesa, CA and his mother-in-law, Larue Shriver, Olathe, KS. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, infant grandsons, Dreygan and Riley Taffner, and his old buddy, Smokey, his chocolate lab.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday April 9, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Following the service, cremation will take place and a private committal service will follow at a later date in the Hamby Cemetery in Cedar County.

Sherry Strecker

Sherry Strecker, 86, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Medicalodge of Pittsburg.

She was born June 29, 1932, at Arcadia, KS, the daughter of Raymond C. and Emma (Pearce) Strecker.

She had been a resident of Pittsburg since 1941.

She was employed by the City of Pittsburg from 1955 to 1973, and served on the City Commission from 1973- 1979, the last year serving as Mayor. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) serving as Elder, Treasurer, Board Member and Trustee.

She was founder of the Southeast Kansas Humane Society and was a lifetime member. She served on many local boards and organizations holding offices in each one. She formerly owned and operated Strecker Title Agency, Inc.








Survivors include several cousins, including Judy Tucker, Memphis, TN; Yvette and William Brann, Raytown, MO; Eddie Brann (Pam), Pleasant Hill, MO.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Medicalodge of Pittsburg and Avalon Hospice for their care and support.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (April 9) at the First Christian Church with Rev. Pat Nixon officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Park Cemetery. Sally Louise (Hash) Bronson, 79, of Parsons, and a former resident of McCune and Oswego, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 2:16a.m., surrounded by family in the emergency room at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas.

She was born November 22, 1939 in Greencove, Virginia to William Robert Hash and Alice Virginia (Ashley) Hash. She grew up one of ten children in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia and graduated from South Holston High School in 1958.

She moved to Washington DC to work, where she met the love of her life, Carl Bronson while he was stationed in the service. They were married March 12, 1960 in Berryville, VA and moved to Kansas, where they farmed and raised their family. They celebrated 59 years together. She loved family gatherings, cooking, music, Bible study, flowers and was an avid gardener.









Survivors include her husband Carl, of the home, her children, Carla Buntin, and her husband, Kevin of Erie, Susie Robin, and her husband, Scott of Strauss, and Dusty Bronson, and his wife, Tina of Parsons; her grandchildren, Chris Buntin, and his wife, Chelsey of Altamont, Ashley Tromsness, and her husband, Adam of Galesburg, Kyle Buntin, and his wife, Morgan of Erie, Tyler Robin, and his wife, Cearrah of Frontenac, Tessa Johnson, and her husband, Clint of Girard, Noah Bronson of Parsons, Jase Sherwood, and his wife, Kourtenay of Pratt, and Lex Sherwood, and his wife, Ashley of Iola, KS; her great-grandchildren, Raimi, Sage & Sawyer Buntin of Altamont, Alivia Scout, Thatcher & Sailor Tromsness of Galesburg, Sydnee Johnson of Girard, Kendall Buntin of Erie, Kaden & Jax of Pratt, and one on the way; her sister, Bernice Barr of Damascus, VA with whom she shared a special and cherished bond; four sister-in-laws, Linda, Lois, Doris and Mary Abbey Hash; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, six brothers: Everett, Estel, Orvell, Donald, Glen (Bud) and Conley Hash; one sister Margaret Burnett and one infant brother.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the McCune Cemetery with Pastor Les Green officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Elizabeth Robinson

Elizabeth Ann (Babe) Kendall Robinson passed from this earth into the arms of our God and Savior, April 3, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.

Elizabeth was born September 19, 1938, at Mulberry, KS, to John and Oneta (Dungan) Kendall. She was one of four children.

Babe had the privilege of freedom of growing up in a small town. It was a time when residents were like family and cared for one another. She graduated from Mulberry High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College now known as Pittsburg State University.

Babe met and married the love of her life, John H. Robinson, June 2, 1961. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2016.








Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Independence, MO, where they resided for the next twenty-eight years. Elizabeth was a cosmetologist with J.C. Penney then left and opened her own salon at the Blue Ridge Mall, K.C., MO. In 1991, the couple moved back to this area and purchased a small convenience store. In 1994, Elizabeth went to work for the Area Agency on Aging until her retirement. After retirement she loved reading, crossword puzzles, flowers and going out to eat.

She was a member of the Cherokee Baptist Church and belonged to Cherokee American Legion Auxiliary.

Elizabeth fought valiantly against the cancer that took her life. Will Palmer and his wife, cared for her the last 2 ½ years of her life.

At her request she will be cremated with no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Brenner Mortuary for the Cherokee Baptist Church or S.E.K. Humane Society.

Bonnie Brooks

Bonnie L. Brooks, 75, of Scammon, KS, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2019, at Medicalodges in Pittsburg.

She was born April 12, 1943, in California and spent most of her life in southeast Kansas.

Bonnie married Larry L. Brooks and he resides at the home.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and daycare provider, who treated everyone like they were her own kids. Bonnie enjoyed crafts, baking and crocheting.

She is survived by her 6 sons; Robert Gail (Tina) Eckles of Michigan, Michail Dawayne (Sueatta) Eckles of Texas, Jeffery Eugene Eckles of Kansas City, Travis Joe (Wiley) of Kansas City, Troy Dean (Beth) Eckles of Columbus, William Lee (Jaclyn) Moore of Pittsburg, 2 daughters; Candy Lynn Miller of Joplin, Mercedes Joy Eckles of Scammon, 20 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson; Ivan Rodriguez Jr..

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Tootsie Delmont

Alice Jean “Tootsie” Delmont, 74 of rural Columbus, KS died at 12:45am Tuesday April 2, 2019 at her home.

She was born February 25, 1945 the daughter of Herman and Helen (Buzard) Schreiber. She was united in marriage to James Andrew Delmont, he preceded her in death. 

Tootsie was a member of the First Christian Church; she also enjoyed the Casino, outdoors, planting flowers. She was a lover of animals and liked the horse races, but her favorite was spending time with the kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

She was a secretary for the Parsons, KS SRS office and also was a dog breeder.








Survivors include a son Sam Delmont and wife Amanda of Columbus, KS; two daughters: Lela Mustain and husband Chad of Oswego, KS and Libby Perry and husband Heath of Columbus along with 16 grandchildren: Cody, Morgan, Alex, Molly, Haley, Shelby, Lainie, Allie, Rhett, Hunter, Paige, Caitlin, Kylee, Madison, Kylee, Kolten and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Lacy Delmont, 2 sisters: Marietta Slay, Lela Thomas and a niece Teri Byrd.

Funeral services will be 1pm Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Columbus with Pastor Shirley Poor officiating. Burial will follow in the Edgmand Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30pm – 8:30pm on Thursday evening.

Norma Karhoff

Dr. Norma I. Karhoff, 87, of Emporia, formerly of Parsons, died at 4:30 P.M., Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

She was born August 13, 1931 at Edina, MO, a daughter of Lawrence and Elma Jane (Davis) Karhoff. Her family moved to Labette County in 1932 and she attended schools there. She received her B.S. from Pittsburg State University, her M.S. of Science from Kansas State Teacher’s College at Emporia and her Ph.D. from Ohio State University. Throughout her career she taught at the Neodesha High School, Emporia State University from 1959-1967 and later was a professor at Ohio State University and at the University of Illinois. She retired in 1996 and moved to Emporia in 1998.

She was a member of the Didde Catholic Center and the Secular Franciscan Order. She was also a member of the Costume Society of American, the International Textile and Apparel Association, and volunteered with several groups.








Survivors included: one brother – C. Mark Karhoff, Rural Parsons, KS; one sister – Mary Gilreath, Augusta, GA; several nieces and nephews, including Mark Karhoff, Girard, KS, Charles Karhoff, Parsons, KS, Denise Gilreath-Schultz, Ettich, WI, Dennis Gilreath, Augusta, GA, Norma Sue Karhoff, Paola, KS, David Karhoff, Oswego, KS, Rick Karhoff, Oswego, KS, Misty Almond, Parsons, KS. She was preceded in death by two brothers – Bernhardt Karhoff and Beryl Karhoff and an infant sister – Doris Rose Karhoff.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 4, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Curtis Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME. Mack Farmer

Lou "Mack" Farmer, 73 of Girard, KS died at 4:20 pm, March 30, 2019 at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

He was born December 4, 1945 in Ft. Scott, KS the son of Arthur C. and Edwinna (Clunch) Farmer.

Mack graduated from the Ft Scott High School with the class of 1964.

He entered the U.S. Army with the 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor and was stationed at Camp Rose Korea from 1966-1968.

On March 27, 1970 he was united in marriage to Kathy Johnson in Ft. Scott, KS. She survives him of the home.

Upon returning home from Korea he attended Kansas State Teachers College now known as PSU, graduating in 1973.

In the summer of 1971 Mack worked for KS Historical Society, excavating footings for the old buildings at Fort Scott. In 1973 he was hired as the first Adult Probations Officer of Bourbon County KS, where he helped write the grant for the funding of the program.

In 1975, he was hired as Probation and Parole Officer with KS Department of Corrections in Great Bend, KS; then in 1978 he transferred to Pittsburg, KS as Regional Director for the Southeast Kansas Region. Mack retired in 2002.

Mack was also an avid fisherman and bowler.








Additional survivors include a daughter Deana Cubie and her husband Alex, and a grandson Collin Cubie, all of Topeka; KS, a sister-in-law Elaine Johnson of Tucson, AZ, a brother-in-law Ken Johnson and wife Joyce of Fort Scott, KS. Along with many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Arthur Farmer, Jr. & Michael Farmer and a nephew Timothy Farmer.

A celebration of Life Service will be 2pm, Wednesday April 3, 2019 at the Farlington Lake Shelter House with Dr. David Beaty officiating.

Danny Redd

Danny L. Redd, 69, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital.

Danny was born May 15, 1949 to Elmer and Wanda (Lea) Redd in Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was a graduate from Pittsburg High School. Danny served in the United States Army Reserves and worked in the credit and transportation department for Dicky Clay and Mission Clay for 40 years.

Danny married the love of his life Mary Bailey, on August 30, 1969 in Galena, Kansas, she resides at the home.

He enjoyed golfing and coaching little league baseball in Pittsburg.

Danny is survived by his wife, son; Jason (Amy) Redd of Frontenac, KS, daughter; Christy (Josh) Mitchell of Frontenac, KS, 2 brothers; Dave (Rita) Redd of Lufkin, TX, Don (Jackie) Redd, sister; Connie (Tim) Anderson of Radley, KS, 3 grandkids; Austin, Addison, Brynne and several nieces and nephews.








He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Billy Redd and Ralph Redd.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 6-8 PM at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. . In accordance to Danny’s wishes, he will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date
