Karen Davied

Karen Ann Davied, 56, of Walnut, died at 4:44 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2020 in Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Karen was born December 20, 1963 in Girard, a daughter of Gerald and Mary (Hermann) Davied. She attended schools in Greenbush, Girard, Arma and Columbus, where she graduated. She then attended the Learning Center in Parsons.

Karen worked at Max’s and the bed and breakfast, both in St. Paul, McDonald’s and Save A Lot, both in Parsons. She later moved to her own house at rural Walnut and she was a volunteer at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
Karen enjoyed watching television, visiting with friends, and working jig saw puzzles. Every year she looked forward to attending Holy Family Camp.

She attended St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Greenbush before it was destroyed by fire and she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Girard.








Survivors are her parents of Walnut; her siblings, Marietta Graham, and her husband, Rodger, of Whitewater, Kansas, Mike Davied, and his wife, Becky, of Frontenac, Tom (T.J.) Davied of Carthage, Illinois, Dr Allen Davied, and his wife, Dr. Mala, of Overland Park, Kansas, Roy Davied of Lincoln, Kansas, Duane Davied of Olathe, Kansas, Dale Davied, and his wife, Angela, of Leawood, Kansas; a special staff member she considered her 2nd mother Patti Martin; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Monday, June 1, 2020 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Floyd McKinney as Celebrant. Burial will be in Greenbush Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m., Monday, before the Mass, at St. Michael. Friends may call at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael Catholic Church and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.

Gaye Buergin

Gaye M Buergin, age 78, passed away at 1:04 pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at her home following an illness, surrounded by her family. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and traveling with her husband, Fred.

Gaye was born January 14, 1942 in Columbus, Kansas. She had lived most of her life in Cherokee.

She was a homemaker. She had also worked several years at Steve’s Pronto in Cherokee and later worked at Super 8 Motel in Lamar, MO. She was a member of First Christian Church, Columbus, KS. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren’s activities.

Gaye was married to Fred Buergin on June 21, 1958 in Miami, OK. He passed away August 17, 2018.








She was also preceded in death by her father, Charles W Handshy; her mother, Fern (Robison) Smith; and one brother, Larry Handshy.

Surviving is one son, David Fred Buergin (Cheryl) of McCune; 4 daughters, Julie Ann Curran (Mark) of Girard, Lisa Glaser (Doug) of Cherokee, Misty Dawn Ader (Larry), State of Pennsylvania, and Traci Windsor (Dalton) Grafton, WI; one sister, Joyce Parsons, Scammon, KS; 16 grandchildren, Angella Curran, Garrett Curran, Logan Curran, Toby Curran, Melinda Curran, Brandon Buergin, Bryce Buergin, Cody Glaser, Clint Glaser, Cheyenne Verga, Ciarra Billiard, Bailey Verga, Brooke Putting, Drew Windsor, Brady Windsor and Isabella Windsor along with 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS. Friends are asked to observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Compassus, in care of the funeral home.

Susan Schnichels

Susan Kay Schnichels, age 68, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Yates Center Health and Rehab in Yates Center, KS. She was born on September 18, 1951, in Ft. Scott, the daughter of Donald and Betty Powell Wiggans.

She married Paul Morris, Sr. in 1974. They later divorced. She married Mark Schnichels on January 4, 1980. He preceded her in death on February 6, 2007. 

Susan worked for Tri-Valley Developmental Center for 10 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.








Survivors include a son, Paul Morris, Jr., Ft. Scott; 3 daughters, Brandi Johnson, Yates Center; Kayla Schnichels, Ft. Scott, and Kara Schnichels, Pittsburg, KS; a step son, Mark Schnichels, Ft. Scott; 3 step daughers, Annette Blevins, Colorado, Frankie Kimmel, Iowa, and Sara Schnichels, Ft. Scott; her mother, Betty Wiggans, Ft. Scott; a sister, Carla Fowler and husband Mike, Ft. Scott; one brother, William Wiggans and wife Amy, Ft. Scott; 17 grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Wiggans; 2 sisters, Mary Sampson and Dawnie Sharp; a granddaughter, Mia Johnson; and her father.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 Tuesday, June 2nd, in the Clarksburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Care to Share and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S. Betty Dellasega

Betty Gene Dellasega peacefully ended her time on this earth on Monday, May 25th. Born November 3rd, 1923 to Ralph and Edna (Williamson) Clements, she was a lifelong Pittsburg resident.

She grew up in the shadow of her beloved Our Lady of Lourdes Church on 9th Street. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School and High School, receiving her degree in 1942, a proud member of one of the first graduating classes. She renewed that pride every time she watched one of her children and grandchildren follow her footsteps at St. Mary’s-Colgan. 

While attending Kansas State Teacher’s College and working at Bell Telephone she met the love of her life, Charles J. Dellasega of Frontenac. They were married at Our Lady of Lourdes on January 26, 1946 and they were blessed to have 43 years together.

Charles and Betty began their married life in McCune, Kansas and moved to Norman Oklahoma in 1947 where Charles completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Oklahoma. Returning to Pittsburg in 1950, Dr. Dellasega assumed a position in the Social Science department at Kansas State College. Partnering with Charles’ brother, they established Delletters Inc. in 1953. That same year they built their first home in Deill addition east of George Nettels’ School.

Betty was the consummate mother, her primary role in life. Despite this commitment, she found time to be active in the Kansas State College Faculty Wives Club, the Newman Club, Mt. Carmel Pink Ladies and several bridge clubs. A dedicated member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, she served on the school board and participated in the Christ the King Adoration Chapel, Tuesday Morning Rosary Group, The St. Paul Widow and Widowers Group and the St. Mary’s Goodwill store, where she was a part of the Leadership Team for many years.








All, who knew her, recognized her ever present positive outlook and her ardent Catholic faith. This was punctuated by her lifelong commitment to the Rosary. She read avidly and travelled extensively with her sister and friends later in life. She loved family events and felt blessed that her and Charle’s descendant family numbered more than 60 loved ones.

Survivors include: Christie Gill and husband Bill of Pittsburg, KS. ; Dr. Mark Dellasega and wife Margie of Greenville, NC.; Doug Dellasega and wife Julie of Pittsburg, KS.; Joe Dellasega and wife Janice of Pittsburg, KS.; Lisa Russell and husband Randy of Pittsburg, KS. She has also enjoyed and been loved by 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Carl; grandson, Adam Gill; sister, Mary Roos; and brothers John and Ralph (Bud) Clements.

A Funeral Mass, celebrated by her grandson: Fr. Drew Dellasega, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28th at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, burial to follow at Highland Park Cemetery. The parish rosary will be prayed on Wednesday, May 27th at 6:30 pm at the church. The family will receive friends following the Rosary.

Memorial donations are suggested to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund.

Marie Lombard

Marie Margaret Lombard of Columbus, Kansas passed from this life on May 25, 2020 at Medical Lodge Columbus, she was 84.

Marie was born on January 4, 1936 to Theodore Augustus and Ada (Watts) Mudd. Marie lived in Columbus for five years moving from Mound Valley. She was a cook for the Unified School District 506 Labette County. She attended Mt Zion Community Church in Cherryvale, Kansas. Marie was a member of the Sunflower Sportsman Club out of Parsons. She enjoyed quilting, sewing spending time with her grandchildren and loved her yorkie Samson.

She married Harold Dean Lombard in Chanute, Kansas he preceded her in death.








Marie is also preceded in death by two brothers Joe Mudd, Gene Mudd and a granddaughter Hailey.

Marie is survived by three daughters Rena Bowman and significant other Rick Lass of Cherokee, Kansas, Cristina Burns and husband David of Columbus, Kansas and Dena Daniels and husband Tony of Cherryvale, Kansas, one sister Betty Shultz of Arizona. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Graveside Service will be 1:00pm Friday May 29, 2020 at Walnut Cemetery north of Erie, Kansas. Marie will lie in state from 9:00am-5:00pm on Thursday for those who wish to come and go and pay your respects.

Nadyne Walker

Nadyne Marie Walker, age 92, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at her home.

She was born August 25, 1927, in Uniontown, KS, the daughter of Herbert and Beulah Neth Holt. She graduated from Uniontown high school with the class of 1946. 

She married Don Walker on April 28, 1963, in Uniontown. He preceded in death in 2000. 

Nadyne worked for Western Insurance Company for several years. She then worked in the office for Key Industries for 38 years. She was a member of the Community Christian Church and more recently attended Rinehart Christian Church in Richards, MO.








Survivors include a son, Kenneth Campbell and wife Vicki, Flora, IL; a step daughter, Donna Wray and husband Harry, Columbia, MO; 2 granddaughters Nichole Schuler and Lisa Campbell; 2 step grandsons; 1 step granddaughter; numerous nephews and 1 niece; and special friend Jim Henning. Besides her husband Don, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Brad Holt; a brother, George Holt; and a sister, Marilyn Brown.

There was cremation. Private burial will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Ft. Scott. Shelly Collier

Shelly Kay Guder Collier, age 47, a resident of rural Bronson, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020, at the home of her parents in rural Bronson. She was born August 14, 1972, in Ft Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Russell R. Guder and Wanda D. Carson Guder.

Shelly graduated from Uniontown High School and Allen County Community College. She married Marc Collier. They later divorced. Shelly had been employed by F. & S. Supply in Iola for seventeen years. She later worked for Hurst Jones and Twin Motors. She enjoyed camping and cutting wood.








Survivors include her son, Joe Collier, of Bronson and her parents, Russell and Wanda Guder, also of Bronson; a granddaughter, Nova Julian and a sister, Windy Ballinger. Also surviving is her long-time companion, Troy Driscoll.

Private services with burial in the Bronson Cemetery will take place on Friday. Lynette Vann

Lynette Renee Vann, age 55, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died Thursday, May 21, 2020, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, KS.

She was born July 28, 1964, in Ft. Scott, the daughter of Donald and Joann Nelson Vann. She worked cleaning for area businesses prior to her disability. Lynette enjoyed listening to music, watching classic movies, and spending time with her grandchildren.








Survivors include her companion of 30 years, Rick Petrechko, Ft. Scott; a daughter, Vanessa Willard, Ft. Scott; a son, E.J. Willard, Omaha, NE; her mother, Joann Vann, Ft. Scott; a sister, Marsha Vann, Ft. Scott; a brother, Keith Vann, Ft. Scott; an aunt, Kathryn Hopkins, Ft. Scott; and five grandchildren, Devonte, G.G., Kordae, Dezziona, and Kamdyn.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Charlene Taylor

Charlene M. Taylor, 91, of Parsons, died at 12:03 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Presbyterian Manor.

She was born October 4, 1928, in Parsons, to Charles and Florence (Brophy) Diskin. She graduated from Parsons High School and attended Parsons Junior College. She and Murland “Mike” Taylor were married on May 8, 1949 and they spent 71 devoted years together.

Her faith was a very important part of her life. She belonged to St. Mary’s and then St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she was an active member and served in the Altar Society.

She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. She had many interests. She loved playing cards, was a good bowler and was quite the dancer. She and Mike could “cut the rug” on the dance floor.

Charlene was an excellent cook and an avid sports fan, but most of all a devoted wife and mother. Family was her priority and she loved spending time surrounded by kids and grandkids. She was the heart and soul of the family.








She is survived by her husband, Mike, of the home; children Charles “Chuck” Taylor (Coleen) of Kona, Hawaii, Marilyn Taylor of Olathe, Karen Stein (David) of Wichita, John Taylor (Toni) of Paradise, Texas, Jane Dick (David) of Parsons, Tim Taylor (Char) of Stone Mountain, GA, Ken Taylor (Rhonna) of Parsons and Becky Taylor of Atlanta, GA and 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Mary Kay Diskin, Florine O’Reagan and Lucille Banhart.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Curtis Robertson officiating. The Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the church just before the Mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Susan Brown

Susan Lynn Brown, age 65, resident of Ft. Scott, KS, died late Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at her home. She was born December 12, 1954, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Merle Eugene and Dorothy Wiley Large.

She married James Michael Brown on July 18, 1974, in Fort Scott. Susan worked for several years in claims processing for American States insurance Company and others. She later worked as a secretary for Mid Continental Restoration. She enjoyed crocheting, bingo, fishing and helping with the family annual Christmas light display. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.








Survivors include her husband Jim of the home; a daughter, Lori Brown, Ft. Scott; her mother, Dorothy Hofman, Ft. Scott; three brothers, Curtis Large, Meredosia, IL, Charles Large, Meredosia, IL, and Fredrick Large, Ft. Scott; three sisters, Dianna Brown, Kenney, IL, Joyce Mills, Houston, TX, and Eugena Surratt, Meredosia, IL; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher and Michael Moore; and grandmother, Enid Large, Ft. Scott. She was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Brown; a brother, Thomas Large; and her father.

Fern Woolfolk

Fern Woolfolk, 94, of Parsons, died at 1:05 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home.

She was born February 28, 1926 at rural Edna to Jesse Myrle Allison and Alice Lydia (Whitcomb) Allison, and she grew up in that area. She graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1946.

On June 1, 1946 she and Thomas L. Woolfolk were married in Chetopa. They farmed south of Altamont until 1952 when they moved northwest of Parsons. Later they settled on a farm southwest of Parsons. Tom died on November 8, 2014 and Fern moved to an apartment in Parsons.

In her adult years she had been employed at the Broderick Co., Meadow View School, the Census Bureau, Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, and Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, from where she retired.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Parsons. She enjoyed quilting and being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.








Surviving is a son, Roy Woolfolk, and his wife, Kay, of Coffeyville, a daughter Patricia Mason of Pittsburg; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Ray Woolfolk, a stillborn daughter, two brother’s Wayne Allison and Marion Allison and a sister, and Louise Triebel.

A private funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at the First Christian Church, with Rev. Laurie Lewis officiating. The funeral will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Parsons Facebook page. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont.

Johan Powers

S. Johan Powers, 92, of Parsons, died at 5 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2020 at her home following a period of failing health.

She was born December 2, 1927, at Dallas, Texas, to Louis Elmo and Ida May (Merwin) Willis. At the age of two her family returned to the rural area north of Parsons in Neosho County. She graduated from Parsons High School and Kansas State University at Manhattan.

In September of 1949 she and Charles A. Powers were married. His career as a civil engineer took the family to many places to live, including St. Francis, KS, three cities in the state of California where their three children were born, Baton Rouge, LA, Oklahoma City, OK, Khartoum, Sudan, San Jose, Costa Rica and Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Johan returned to Parsons in 1971 and following her divorce in 1972 she began working at Grandview Products in the office. She left that employment to care for her elderly parents until their deaths and then began employment in the office at Labette Community College, from where she later retired.

She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and especially was involved with her family. Growing up on a farm she could do many of the household chores she learned in her childhood.








Survivors include her three children, Carol Rabig (Tony) of Parsons, Brian Powers (Karen) of Aurora, CO and Craig Powers of Parsons; four grandchildren and their families, Jennifer Rhoades (Justin) of Denver, CO, Stephanie Holding (Chris) and their children Kaylee and Ian of Parsons, Shaun Powers (Ji Un) and their children Brandon and Ivy of Aurora, CO and Devin Rabig (Lisa) and their son Nathaniel of Parsons; and two brothers Richard Willis of Wichita and Rollin Willis (Laquetta) of Irving, TX.

Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother Robert Willis and two sisters-in-law, Verna Willis and Ellen Willis.

Private Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, with Pat McReynolds officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Galesburg.

Kendall Bull

Kendall A Bull, age 57 passed away at 6:10 pm, Monday, May 18, 2020 at K U Medical Center, Kansas City KS following an illness.

Kendall was born June 14, 1962 in Columbus, KS. He had lived in Independence the past 20 years, moving from Columbus, KS where he was raised. As a youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts. He loved music and was an avid reader.








Surviving is his long-time friend, Fred Dice, Independence; his parents, Jim and Verna (Allen) Bull, Columbus; and a host of friends.

Kendall was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS for cremation. No services are planned at this time.

Ralph Ludlum

Ralph E. Ludlum of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this life into eternity, full of years on May 17, 2020. Ralph (Uncle Tuff) was born in Quapaw, Oklahoma on July 25, 1929 to Alma and Grace Ludlum. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, three elder brothers (Harry, Frank and Leroy), and two elder sisters (Alma Louise and Mary Lavon).

Ralph is survived by his life companion and beloved, Nettie Mae Ludlum, who celebrated 70 years of marriage last July 12th. They have two children, daughter Patricia Ludlum of Baxter Springs, Kansas; and a son Jerry Ludlum and wife Cindy of Winter Park, Florida. 








Ralph (Papa) adored and doted on three granddaughters (Amy (Shaver) Spruill, Stacy Shaver, and Shanon Ludlum) and two grandsons (Nathan Shaver and Nicholas Reynolds), and nine great grandchildren (Meagan, Micah, Matthew, and Marshal Dalton; Benjamin, Judah, Caitlyn, Levi, and Luke Shaver).

Ralph was an active member of the Baxter Springs First Assembly of God for over 60 years. He provided well for his family as an employee of Spenser Chemical, Wayne Moore Plumbing, and Yellow Freight. 

If a man’s wealth is measured in friends, Ralph was one of the world’s richest men.

Eugene McClellan

Eugene A. McClellan, age 79, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020, at his home. He was born January 12, 1941, in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Julius Eugene McClellan and Beulah Martin McClellan. Gene graduated from the Wilsey, Kansas High School and later served for two years with the Kansas Army National Guard.

In the 1970’s, Mid-Western Distribution brought Gene to Ft. Scott, Kansas. He married Julie Simmons Hutchison on November 18, 1978; they had two children together. Gene later worked for both RC and Coca-Cola Companies. Gene and Julie began their own upholstery business, Gene’s Upholstery, in 1983. Gene was an avid fisherman and enjoyed visiting with his many friends and fishing buddies. He was a past member of the Lions Club, the Elks Lodge and the First Christian Church.








Survivors include his wife, Julie, of the home; seven children, Brenda Pense (Jim) of Yelm, Washington, Trisha Heston (Doug), of Scottsdale, Arizona, Rick McClellan (Teresa), New Bloomfield, Missouri, Chuck McClellan (Tina), of Quemado, New Mexico, Cheryl McClellan, Josh McClellan (Rechelle), of Nevada, Missouri and Matt McClellan (Star), of Ft. Scott, Kansas; two step-children, Daren Hutchison (Kristen) and Jill Durbin (Jesse), all of Ft. Scott, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Also surviving are three brothers, Harold McClellan (Debbie), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Larry McClellan (Gail), of Billings, Montana and Randy McClellan, of Olathe, Kansas and two sisters, Cheryl Hunley (Wayne) and Carol McClellan, all of Olathe. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gary McClellan and two sisters, Sue Ann McClellan who died in infancy and Judy Swanson.

There was cremation and no services are planned at this time.

Richard Kane

Richard Dale Kane, age 59, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 11:23 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at the NHC HealthCare in Joplin, Missouri. He was born December 26, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Ronald and Patricia (Porter) Kane.

Rick was a 1979 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, where he was active in all sports. He attended Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri and served in the United States Army. He was a Superintendent for a Construction Company in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.








Rick is survived by his father, Ron Kane and his wife, Margaret, of Mt. Vernon; his mother, Patricia Taylor and her husband, Bill, of Pittsburgh, Kansas; one brother, Randy Kane, of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Patti McQuarie of Pittsburgh and Peggy Davis and her husband, Frank, of Platte City, Missouri; three nephews, Jake Kane, Kyle Davis and his wife, Taylor, and Derek Davis; two nieces, Chelsy McQuarie and Brooke Davis; great-nephew, Colin Davis; uncle, Archie Kane and his wife, Carolyn; two aunts, Bobbi Porter and Rose Porter and numerous cousins and friends.

Freda Badart

Freda Rose Badart 85, of Pittsburg, KS died 3:35pm Wednesday May 13, 2020 at her home following an illness.

Freda was born February 23, 1935 in Irwin, MO the daughter of Fred Jr. and Velma (Webb) Miller. She attended and graduated from Lamar High School and soon moved to Pittsburg following graduation. In her early years she worked for Jim’s Steak House, later Annshire Garment Factory and most notably Pitt Plastics for 30 years before retirement.

On January 30, 1955 Freda married Donald Badart in Pittsburg, KS; he preceded her in death on May 24, 2006. Freda was of the Christian Faith; loved puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading and was known as a collector of many things.








Survivors include her children Don Badart and wife Carol of Scammon, KS and Debra Badart of Pittsburg, KS; sister Georgia Mikessell of Springfield, MO; 3 grand-daughters Lydia Dainty, Carleigh Junior and Natalie Collins and 7 great-grandchildren.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Virginia Ramsey.

Graveside Services will be 11:00am Monday May 18, 2020 at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Duane Elmore officiating.

Judy Gourley

Judith "Judy" Ann LaTurner Gourley, age 72, Galena, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at her home.

Judy was born February 21, 1948 in Joplin, Missouri, daughter of the late Paul LaTurner and Catherine McMillan LaTurner. Judy graduated from Galena High School in 1966, and later earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Pittsburg State University. She worked for years as a waitress, and later a nurse's aide before earning her degree and teaching at Labette Community College for 15 years in the Psychology Department before retiring.

She was very proud of her home town of Galena. She enjoyed her time with the Galena Genealogy Club, was a former member of the Galena City Council, and was currently attending Christpoint Church of Galena.








In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jack Gourley, who passed away on March 2, 2017.

Survivors include her daughters, Milissa Weidman and husband Steve of Houston, Texas, and Marla Gourley of Galena; grandchildren, Matthew Weidman of Seattle, Washington, and Kristen Weidman of Houston, Texas; brother, Robert LaTurner of Galena; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at her church in Galena.

Lula Belle Soper

Lula Belle Soper was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on the morning of Tuesday, May 12, 2020. Over the last 83 years, she blessed her family, friends, and community with her warm smile, cheerful demeanor, unconditional love and prayers.

Lula Belle was born on October 17, 1936, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, to Charles and Lottie Dawes. She was the youngest of nine children.

On December 15, 1956, she married the love of her life, Earl Dean, in Miami, Oklahoma. Together, they raised their three daughters, Carmen, Teresa, and Carla in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Over the years, Lula invested her time and love into her family. She enjoyed spending summers on the lake, working on arts and crafts, volunteering in the community, and making dear friends with her coworkers, neighbors, and church. 

Lula Belle stood strong in her faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Spring River Assembly of God in Riverton, Kansas. She was also a proud charter member of Spring River Indian Baptist in Quapaw, Oklahoma. 

Lula Belle worked as a cosmetologist for many years and made numerous friends both young and old with everyone that sat in her chair. She also worked at King Louie and Ace Electric where she retired after several years of service. Following her retirement from Ace, Lula Belle enjoyed caring for her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who are all quite certain that there is nothing “Mum” couldn’t do.










Lula Belle was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Lottie Dawes, her husband: Earl Dean Soper, and siblings: Willis Dixon, Charles Dawes, Cecil Burkybile, Ramona Scott, Oleta Ballard, Mendota Scott, and Juanita Kay.

Survivors include one sister: Coweta Ulrey, three sisters-in law: Shirley Moyer, Nancy Whitten, and Johnny Soper, three daughters: Carmen Casey (Allen), Teresa Buckmaster (Doug), and Carla Roberson (Mark), five grandchildren: Kanisha Richardson (Jacob), Mallory Woods (Taylor), Matt Fitch (Sabra), Chelsey Saffell (Hunter), and Dylan Casey (Samie), and four great-grandchildren: Alex Richardson, Anni Richardson, Judah Casey, and Andy Richardson.

A celebration of life will be held in Lula Belle’s honor at Spring River Assembly of God as soon as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Weldon Roberts

Weldon Blake Roberts, age 67, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, at the Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born June 8, 1952, the son of James P. Roberts and Waneda Alberta Blake Roberts.

Weldon had served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He later served with the Kansas Army National Guard. He married Marlene Elliott in March of 1980. He had been employed by Craft Fabricators in Ft. Scott for several years.








Survivors include his wife, Marlene, of the home; two children Mitchell Roberts and Janelle Roberts and two grandchildren, Kandi and Isabel Rodriguez, all of Ft. Scott. Also surviving are three sisters, Rowena Jahansouz, Rhonda Spears and Brenda Moser. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Ronald Roberts and two sisters, Deborah Silvers and Linda Roberts.

There was cremation. Burial with military honors will take place in the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Dale Rice

Walter Dale Rice, 76, of Opolis, Kansas died on May 12 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was born on March 22, 1944, in Coffeyville to Jonathan Walter and Lyle (McGinnis) Rice. He graduated from Pittsburg High and Kansas State College of Pittsburg Vocational Technical School.

On June 29, 1981 he married Margie Kenneth. He worked for Atkinson for over 30 years. Dale loved camping, bird hunting, fishing, antique cars, going to car shows, antique engines, antique tractors.








Dale is survived by his loving wife, Marge, two daughters, Michelle Litterini (Lawrence) Virginia Beach, VA, and Vicki Rice, Wichita, KS, and grandchildren, Kristopher, Alexis and Briana, his mother, Lyle Rice of Pittsburg and bother, Tom Rice (DeEllen) of Cottonwood Falls, nieces, Aimee Gordon (Lance) and Tara O’Connor (Michael), great-nieces and nephew and many cousins.

According to Dale’s wishes he has been cremated. A Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Crocker Cemetery. John Denson

John William Denson was born November 29, 1932 at Labette County, Kansas. He was the second son of Thomas William and Bessie Morrison Denson.

The family lived on a farm on the outside of Parsons Kansas, later his dad became a Divisional Lineman for the M-K-T (Katy) Railroad. The family moved to several locations the last being Osage and Cleveland, Oklahoma.

John played on the Osage basketball team and graduated high school in 1951.

He served in the Korean War, in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.

He was listed in communications which put him in the middle of North Korea and South Korea.
During that time, he was awarded four medals. The Medal of Korean Service, United Nations, National Defense Service, and Medal of Good Conduct. He had then earned the rank of
Corporal in 1953.

After returning from Korea, he worked for Nelson Electric Company which later became O-Z
Gedney. He worked there for 40 years, retiring as shop foreman for the company. John was
proficient in sign language and was able to communicate with his deaf coworkers who also became lifetime friends down the road.

In September 1956, he married Evelyn Marie Lovelady. She is the mother to their two daughters Debra and Cathy. Evelyn passed away in December of 1977 at the age of 41.
In 1978, he married Betty Lou Britton who lived in Mound Valley, Kansas at the time.
John made his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was talented in playing the guitar, his favorite music was by Jimmie Rodgers.

His favorite hobbies were making fishing lures and wrapping fishing rods in bright beautiful colors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was happiest in the outdoors. In fact, he was also a member of the Nelson Electric Bass Club. He organized and contributed his time to bass tournament in which he many times took first place.

He was admired for his strategic fishing skills and in turn became part of a brotherhood of fishermen which would live on for years.

Among many talents, he also loved whittling. He would draw his own sketches of wildlife which he would then carve out of blocks of wood.

After his retirement from O-Z Gedney, he resided at home until he became ill. He recently resided at the Veterans Center in Claremore, OK where he departed this life on May 9, 2020 at the age of 87. He said he never hated anyone. Always be good to one another and they will be good to you.








He is survived by his wife Betty Lou, daughters, Debra Little of Claremore, Oklahoma, Cathy Farmer and her husband Dwight of Tulsa, Oklahoma, stepson Ronnie Britton and wife Donna of Cherryvale, Kansas, sisters, Juanita Hatcliff and husband Marlin of Kansas City, Kansas, Mary Dyke of Dennis, Kansas, and Betty Racy of Parsons, Kansas, sisters-in-Law Becky Denson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Mary Lou Denson of Brawley, California. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Bessie Denson, his first wife Evelyn, brothers Glenn and Tommy, son-in-law Daniel Little, brothers-in-law Clyde Dyke and Norman Racy, and stepson Ricky Britton, all of whom who will be there to welcome him to his eternal home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 16, 2020 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Cook officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Byron Carter

Byron J. Carter, 28, of rural Parsons, passed away at 8:28 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2020 at the family home.

He was born October 19, 1991, in Parsons, to Gary and Vonda (Stringer) Carter. He was born with a physical disability but blessed with a wonderful mind. He determined to never let his condition define him and or stop him from accomplishing what he set out to do. He was an avid learner and was a student of history.

Byron graduated from Labette County High School in 2011, primarily earning all A’s and with a class standing of 14 out of 123 graduates. He graduated from Coffeyville Community College with honors. Currently he was an online student at Colorado State University working toward a bachelor’s degree in Agri Business. He worked as a consultant in keeping family farm records.








Some of his many interests included Nascar, trucks, PS2, computers, cell phones, camping, hunting, fishing, being out of doors, animals, nature and bird watching. He was involved in scouting several years. He liked watching and reading westerns, action movies, Scooby Doo, John Wayne movies and history. He was a country music fan of performers such as Toby Keith, Keith Urban, George Strait, Hank Sr., The “Hag”, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. He also enjoyed classical and rock and roll music. Byron took art classes and enjoyed drawing and painting when he could.

Byron had a sense of humor and was a determined, caring, compassionate, intelligent young man and worried about everyone but himself. He never wanted any special treatment, preferring to be treated like everyone else.

A friend told his family that if you were to look up the work “courage” in the dictionary you would see a picture of Byron in his wheelchair. Others have said that he is the bravest person they have ever known. He was a strong advocate for those with disabilities and would write letters to politicians, organizations, and insurance providers standing up for the disabled. He had a strong faith and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was always there to listen to people and to offer advice. He was a role model for his nieces, who called him “Bubba”.

Byron is survived by his parents, Gary and Vonda Carter of the home, his sister Stephanie Carter and nieces Guadalupe and Isabella Carter, of Altamont; maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Jolene Stringer of Altamont; paternal grandparents, Bob and Marilyn Carter of Winfield; aunts and uncles, Jeff Stringer (Vicki Souter) of Parsons, Vicki Stice (Joe) of Altamont, Joni Stringer (Greg Fincher) of Altamont, Gregory Carter of Thayer, Gerry Carter of Paola and Galen Carter of Lawrence.

The private Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Curtis Robertson officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m., prior to the Mass. A public committal service will be at approximately 11:30 a.m., at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, southwest of Parsons. Alice Friskel

Alice P. Friskel, R.N., 83, of Frontenac, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2020 at Via Christi Hospital.

She was born February 20, 1937 at Pittsburg. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Aurelio and Alice (Durant) Rondelli, as her mother, Sarah Rondelli died when she was two years old. Her maternal grandfather was a miner and later a farmer and her maternal grandmother was a homemaker, raising nine children.

Alice attended the 1st and 2nd grade at a country school – Cockerill. Her grandparents sold the farm and moved to Frontenac when she was 7 years old. She then attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Pittsburg. She worked in the kitchen at the hospital and put herself through high school and later, nurses training, where she graduated from the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Pittsburg. She passed the state board examines and became a registered nurse in 1957.

On June 24, 1967, she was united in marriage to David Friskel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He survives at the family home.

Alice was a registered nurse at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg. She served as the Supervisor, then Director of Nursing Services for several years. She retired in 1986. She was the director and was very much involved in the moving of Mt. Carmel from the old site to the present Mt. Carmel/Via Christi Hospital. In addition to being a nurse, Alice was also the co-owner of the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac with her husband.

Membership was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary, where she held several offices, including Secretary and President for four years. She delivered Meals on Wheels for 30 years, and was in charge of collection in Frontenac for the American Cancer Society and Red Cross. Alice was instrumental in getting the North section of land donated for additional spaces for the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. She also loved playing bridge and was in several bridge groups.








Survivors include her husband, David of the home; a daughter, Janine White and her husband, Al of San Marcos, Texas; two sons, Craig Friskel of Frontenac and Eric Friskel and his wife, Lesley of Mission Hills, Kansas; six grandchildren, Sarah Gebhart, Alison Brown, Emily Gibson, Jack Friskel, Luke Friskel, and Nora Friskel; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver Lee Gibson and Baylor Gebhart.

She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents.

A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Philip J. Voegeli as celebrant. A Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow the rosary. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary. Freda Nadine Clothier, 102, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away at 8:15 AM, Monday, May 11, 2020, at Comfort Care Homes of Pittsburg, at Pittsburg, KS.

She was born March 8, 1918, at Kirkwood, KS, to James A and Pearl (Purdy) Daggett.

On December 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to William Clyde Clothier in Pittsburg, KS. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2011.

Freda worked for Bell Telephone Credit Union for many years retiring in 1988.

Membership was held in First Christian Church.








She is survived by two daughters, Becky Beecham of Pittsburg, KS, and Linda Robbins and her husband Jerry of Severance, CO; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Robbins, Brian Robbins, Joshua Beecham, Angela Althoff, and Phillip Beecham; and seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Robbins, Brett Beecham, Isabelle Robbins, Sophia Beecham, Abigail Althoff, Grace Beecham, and Harper Beecham.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Ruth Irene Daggett, Thelma Mae Purvis, Vera Juanita Willits, and Virginia Lee Russell, and a brother John Kenneth Daggett.

Wanda Larsen

Wanda Audine (Smith) Larsen, 89, formerly of Fort Scott, KS, passed away Thursday evening, May 7, 2020, at the Ozark Nursing and Care Center in Ozark, MO. Wanda was born August 3, 1930, in (a farmhouse near Dry Ridge) Blue Mound, KS, the daughter of Artie Douglas and Charlotte Opal (Bray) Smith.

She graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1948. She was a member of the Richards Christian Church in Richards, MO. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved all children and “adopted” many friends of her children and grandchildren as well as students from Fort Scott Community College as her own. Many remember her fondly as Grandma Wanda.

 Before her health declined, she was very active and enjoyed walks, long drives, and shopping. She had a big heart and managed to find friends everywhere she went. She loved her family, church, cooking, sewing, gardening, and playing cards with friends. She often reminisced about her time working at The Western Insurance Company, The Bourbon County Court House, The Red Barn Restaurant, and Fort Scott Community College.








She is survived by two sons, Steve (Joyce) Larsen, Willard, MO, and Brad (Sharon) Larsen, Winfield KS, and two daughters, Beverly Larsen, Ozark, MO and Belinda (Joe) Tucker, Fort Scott, KS. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Dustin (Stacey) Larsen, Springfield MO; Nicole Adams, Nevada, MO; Noelle (Shane) Fast, Eldorado Springs, MO; Ty Larsen, Springfield, MO; Travis (Beth) Larsen, Springfield, MO; Caylin (Jesse) Overfield, Waunakee, WI; Kyle Larsen, Winfield, KS; Anne (Tom) Colvin, Ozark, MO; Joely (Scott) Womeldorff, Kansas City, MO; Miles (Emmah) Dikeman, Fort Scott, KS; and Monica (Jared) Snyder, Fulton, KS, and twenty great-grandchildren, Elsie and Kinley Larsen, Caleb Kettner, Carli Bouray, Monroe Adams, Hailey and Madi Fast, Mason, Shy and Maggie Larsen, Amaya Campbell, Adilyn and Paxton Overfield; Christian and Sophia Colvin, Talon, Tannyn, Truett and Tesher Womeldorff, Korbin and Kinsley Snyder with a baby girl on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Luker of Holton, KS; a sister-in-law, Ida Mae Smith of Overland Park, KS, and many nieces and nephews. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Billy, Richard and Dale Smith, a sister-in-law, Betty Smith, brother-in-law, Kenny Luker, two sons, Mike and Richard (Dick) Larsen, and her great-granddaughter Gabriella Campbell.

Services will be private with burial at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

Deborah Burns

Deborah A. Burns, 63, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, KS.

She was born January 24, 1957 in Pittsburg the daughter of Donald and Carolyn Owen Martin. She had lived in Weir, KS, Baxter Springs, KS and for the past two years in Pittsburg. She graduated from Pittsburg State University with her master’s degree in education.

She married Timothy P. Burns on June 9, 1979 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. He survives at the home in Pittsburg, KS.

Mrs. Burns taught at Lincoln Elementary School in Parsons, KS from 1979 to 1981, at the Scammon Elementary School from 1981 to 1984 and at Riverton Middle School from 1994 to 2017.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg, KS.








Survivors in addition to her husband Tim include two daughters Abbey Beezley and her husband Tim of Weir, KS, and Bethany Schultz and her husband Jeremy of Crestline, KS, her sister Mary Burke and her husband Dennis of Pittsburg, four grandchildren including Noah Shultz, Jude Shultz, Caroline Beezley, Anna Beezley, and her uncle John Martin and his wife Diane of Blackhawk, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Wednesday, May 13, 2020 with Father Jorge Lopez, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in Scammon, KS. The parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway in Pittsburg, KS. 

Pallbearers will be Evan Burke, Martin Burke, Jeremy Shultz, Tim Beezley, Zachary Williams, and Alan Martin. Friends may call any time after 2 pm Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the funeral home.

Fred Plain

Fred Plain, 71, of Frontenac passed away at his home on Friday, May 8, 2020.

He was born May 12, 1948, at Decatur, IL, the son of Lillie (Plain) Johnson.

Mr. Plain entered into the United States Army on May 26, 1965 and was Honorably Discharged on February 14, 1968, having served in Vietnam.

On August 7, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sally Tubaugh at the Christian Church at Jasper, MO. She survives of the home.

Mr. Plain was a foreman for 28 years for Mission Clay before his retirement.

He was an avid bowler and loved to fish and canoe. He also served as manager for Dickey Clay Softball and was everybody's mechanic.








In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Amy Babcock of Columbus, KS, Jamy Mays (David) of Frontenac, KS, and Cristle Plain of Frontenac, KS, two brothers, Jim and David, three sisters, Sheila, Lori and Lisa, fourteen grandchildren, Earon, Drew, Tayhler, Elissa, Isaac, Clay, Drake, Callie, Dalton, Kattie, Parker, Madison, Conner and Emma, two great grandchildren, Aiden Anthony and Zoey Bell, additionally, Tristan Davis and home healthcare nurse, Kayla Marie.

He is preceded in death by his mother, one son, Christopher Charles Plain and one grandson, Kahl.

A private family graveside service for Mr. Plain is set for Monday, May 18, 2020, at the Lake Cemetery, Lamar, MO. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Monday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society and/or KDWPT. Wilrose Bough

Wilrose Bough, 99, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away May 10, 2020, at her residence.

She was born February 20, 1921, at Franklin, MO, to Frank and Grace (Adams) Whitten.

Having lost both parents at an early age she was reared in the home of an Aunt and Uncle. She graduated from Glasgow High School, in Glasgow, MO, in 1938.

On October 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to Sammie Daniel Bough of Stockton, MO, He passed away December 14, 2007.










Wilrose was a loving mother and enjoyed flowers, gardening, piecing quilts, and working crossword puzzles. She was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband of 67 years, a son, Donald Bough, and a sister, Maxine Hendrix.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald Bough and his wife Leanore of Billings, MT, and David Bough of Pittsburg, KS; a daughter, Krista (Bough) Cornell of Pittsburg, KS; additional survivors include, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and a niece Patsy Davis of Fulton, MO.








A service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2020, at the Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Linda Stotler officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials be given to the Grace United Methodist Church and Mirza Shrine Hospital Dads. Ray Shaffer

Ray Shaffer Jr., 87, of Girard passed away at 10:06 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born November 11, 1932 in Monmouth, Kansas a son of Ray B. and Madeline (Everett) Shaffer.

Ray attended school in McCune, graduating from the McCune High School; he later attended Pittsburg State University.

On December 21, 1951 Ray and Corene Stewart were united in marriage in McCune, Kansas, she survives of the home.

Ray spent 45 years in the printing industry; he was employed by Va Co Hy Printing of Girard and was a founder at Ace Forms of Pittsburg.

He was a member of The United Methodist Church of Girard.

Ray loved his family and enjoyed his friends. He also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a fan of the Girard Trojans, Pitt State, K U and Chiefs.








Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons: Marty Shaffer and wife Cathy of Girard, Kevin Shaffer and his wife Kathy of Arma; one brother, Rick Shaffer of McCune; two grandchildren, Ali McCullough, Jason Shaffer and four great-grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kristine Shaffer; one sister, Patricia Thuilliez and one grandchild, Brad Shaffer.

Private graveside services for Ray Shaffer Jr. will be Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Girard Cemetery with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Friends are invited to sign the Register Book at the Smith-Carson-Wall funeral Home of Girard after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Wayne Neeley

Dalton Wayne Neeley 83, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 unexpectedly at Legacy Living, Topeka, KS.

Wayne was born June 17, 1936 to Thomas and Levada (Alcorn) Neeley at Burkburnett, TX.

Wayne joined the United States Air Force in 1954, serving at Forbes Field Air Force Base in Topeka, KS with Strategic Air Command (SAC). While on weekend leave met Mary Barrett of Columbus, KS and were later married on May 19, 1956 in Columbus.

Wayne served in the Air Force for 20 ½ years and was also stationed at Schilling Air force Base in Salina, KS; Amarillo Air Force Base Texas; Wright-Patterson Air force Base in Dayton, OH; and Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, WA, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Wayne retired on July 31, 1974 and returned to Columbus, KS.

Wayne attended Pittsburg State University Vocational School for welding in 1975 and 1976. He was employed at Dickey Clay in Pittsburg, KS for several years.










Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Neeley in 2016; sisters, Gale Neeley, Mildred Clark, and Dorothy Bailey; brothers, Franklin Neeley, Marion Neeley, Ronnie Neeley, Doug Neeley, Larry Neeley, Jerry Neeley, Terry Neeley, and Ricky Neeley; son-in-law, Rick Johnson.

Wayne is survived by daughters, Beverly Hess and husband Gale of Chetopa, KS, and Debbie Johnson of Oronogo, MO; sons, Robert Neeley and wife Sharon of Olney, TX, and Vic Neeley and wife Keli of Augusta, KS; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Sisters, Rita Rist, and Carol Lovins of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Weldon Neeley of Nashville, TN, and Kerry Neeley of Tulsa, OK.

In respect to COVID-19 a private family graveside will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Edgmand Cemetery, Columbus, KS. Robert Blake will officiate.
