Gaye Buergin

Gaye M Buergin, age 78, passed away at 1:04 pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at her home following an illness, surrounded by her family. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and traveling with her husband, Fred.

Gaye was born January 14, 1942 in Columbus, Kansas. She had lived most of her life in Cherokee.

She was a homemaker. She had also worked several years at Steve’s Pronto in Cherokee and later worked at Super 8 Motel in Lamar, MO. She was a member of First Christian Church, Columbus, KS. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren’s activities.

Gaye was married to Fred Buergin on June 21, 1958 in Miami, OK. He passed away August 17, 2018.








She was also preceded in death by her father, Charles W Handshy; her mother, Fern (Robison) Smith; and one brother, Larry Handshy.

Surviving is one son, David Fred Buergin (Cheryl) of McCune; 4 daughters, Julie Ann Curran (Mark) of Girard, Lisa Glaser (Doug) of Cherokee, Misty Dawn Ader (Larry), State of Pennsylvania, and Traci Windsor (Dalton) Grafton, WI; one sister, Joyce Parsons, Scammon, KS; 16 grandchildren, Angella Curran, Garrett Curran, Logan Curran, Toby Curran, Melinda Curran, Brandon Buergin, Bryce Buergin, Cody Glaser, Clint Glaser, Cheyenne Verga, Ciarra Billiard, Bailey Verga, Brooke Putting, Drew Windsor, Brady Windsor and Isabella Windsor along with 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS. Friends are asked to observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Compassus, in care of the funeral home.
