Frieda Cormedy

Frieda Mae Cormeny, age 70, passed away at 12:40 am, Thursday April 30, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.

Frieda was born September 29, 1949, in Columbus, KS. Her parents were Homer “Hank” Grant and Ethel Mae (Speck) Moore. Frieda graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1966.

She married Harry Edward Cormeny on January 26, 1968 in Columbus, Ks. He survives of the home.








Frieda was very active in 4-H and the Labette County Fair. She was superintendent of the poultry barn and gained her name, the “Chicken Lady." She also helped with the sheep and goats. She would coordinate with the Extension office to help kids with their animals and make it a good experience. She was also involved in the boy and cub scouts and any other activity that her son and later, her grandchildren, were involved in. She loved going to the farmers market in Oswego and peddling fresh eggs and vegetables. She loved her dogs and any other animal that was brought home. Frieda was “mom” and “granny” to many kids over the years and touched several other lives.

She is additionally survived by her son, Harry “Ed” Edward Cormeny II and wife, Becky of Mound Valley, KS; two brothers, Jim Moore and wife, Nancy of Hays, KS and Robert Moore and wife, Betty, of Ellis, KS; 4 grandchildren, Cooper James Cormeny, Whisper Renae Cormeny (fiancĂ© Kyle Johnston), Alyssa Marie Weil (fiancĂ© Michael Robbins) and Michael Lane Tennyson; two great-grandchildren, Avaleigh Chevelle Robbins and Elsie Mae Robbins; and many nieces and nephews.

She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego KS, for cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
