Doe Weakley

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Doris Weakley, 88, joined our heavenly father on August 4, 2019 surrounded by her family at her home in Baxter Springs, KS.

Doe was born on February 14, 1931 in Baxter Springs, KS to Jess and Harriett Cornelison. She married Howard Weakley in 1946. Together they raised two children, Susan and Tommy.

Doe was a wonderful caregiver. She took care of her family and her farm while her husband was on the road. She also worked many years as a home health nurse. But her real passion was for the outdoors. When Doe was younger, she raised Limousin cattle on over 300 acres of land. As she got older, she continued to take advantage of every opportunity to be outside riding her four-wheeler, mowing the yard, tending to the garden, and enjoying her many flowers that surround her home.

Doe also loved to be on the go. She could be found at Sonic, drinking Cherry Vanilla Coke and eating a hamburger with her daughter, Sue. On the weekends, she enjoyed going to rummage sales and finding lots of bargains with the son Tommy. She also enjoyed spending time shopping at the mall and buying clothes.

Doe was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years on November 10, 2017.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan and son, Tommy (Tami Allen); 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Doe also has 2 surviving sisters, Judy Montgomery and Bert Pickett (Bill), and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 9, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS with Dave and Mary Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Pence Cemetery, Baxter Springs, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00 pm, Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the funeral home.
