Mary Windsor

Mary Windsor, 78, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:06 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family, after a 7 month battle with liver cancer.

She was born September 11, 1940, on Lee Hurt Rd in Pittsburg, the daughter of Lee Edward and Hazel ‘Viola’ (Little) Hurt. She attended school near Midway and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1957.

On March 22, 1959, she married Murvel Windsor in the Presbyterian Church at Cherokee. He survives at the home.

Mrs. Windsor worked as a secretary for Judge Loffswold in early years, before becoming a homemaker and mother. She then volunteered as an Election Day Worker for Crawford County for over 25 years.

She loved to dance, and you could find her and Murvel either at their place at Grand Lake riding their matching jet ski’s or at Barto’s every Friday and Saturday dancing the night away.










In addition to her husband, Murvel, she is survived by a son, Mike Windsor and his wife, Anne of Weir; a daughter, Melanie Boxberger of Pittsburg; a brother, Rick Hurt of Ft. Scott; a sister of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Brooke Boxberger, Michael Windsor, Matthew Windsor, Brent Boxberger, Morgan Windsor, and Mcauley Windsor; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Capt. James Hurt and a sister, Nadine Oeth.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (August 6) at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10 a.m. The family suggests memorials be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
