Virgie Gilliland

Virgie “Toadie” I. Gilliland 72, of Oswego, KS died 3:09am Sunday April 5, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Oswego, KS.

Virgie was born on October 5, 1947 in Russell, KS the daughter of James Martin and Ola Mae (Moles) Boyles. Virgie graduated from Russell High School and didn’t move to the area until the early 1970s. Virgie worked as a Certified Nurses Aide for various nursing homes and home health care facilities.

Virgie married Frank W. Gilliland in Pawhuska, OK on September 10, 1968; he survives at his home in Oswego, KS. Virgie was baptized in the Episcopal Church; was known as an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing, puzzles, drinking coffee at all hours of the day and especially liked visiting and spending time with friends.








Survivors include her husband; daughters Frankie Box and husband Roger II of Columbus, KS and Dawn Gilliland of Oswego, KS; sister Betty Stoppel and husband Harold of Hutchinson, KS; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents.

Private Services will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Oswego and/or Columbus Public Libraries.
