Dean Cares

Dean Cares, 86, lifelong area resident, died at 12:32 a.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in the emergency room of Labette Health in Parsons. Death was unexpected.

He was born January 4, 1931, in rural Parsons, to R L and Melba (Elam) Cares. He grew up in the rural area between McCune and St. Paul and attended McCune High School. Later he graduated from Pittsburg State University.

Dean was a lifelong farmer and loved to work with electronics. He was a devoted fisherman and enjoyed playing the harmonica.

On March 22, 1958 he and Betty Huston were married in Miami, OK and were blessed with 62 years of marriage.








Besides his wife, Betty, he is survived by three sons, Wade Cares (Sara) and Wesley Cares (Paula), both of Parsons and Rene Cares (Regina) of Dennis; seven grandchildren, Ian Cares (Nicole) and Logan Cares (Karlee), both of Parsons, Brett Cares (Bailey) of Pittsburg, Tricia Page (Preston) of Erie, Marlee Cares (Sam Pugh) of Parsons, Tyler Cares (Aubrey Baker) of Dennis and Bryar Cares (Cara Smith) of Parsons; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kynzi, Naia, Thea, Payden, Teagan and Trycen; sisters-in-law Martha Cares of Lawrence and Wilma Handshy (Carl) of Columbus and his dog and best friend “Shorty."

Preceding Dean in death were his parents, a son, Rory Cares on July 19, 1980, and his brother, Jerry Cares.

A family service will be Thursday morning at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Friends may sign the register at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home until 8 p.m., today (Wednesday).
