Arland Smith

Arland Thomas Smith, age 75, passed away at 12:10 am, Monday, April 6, 2020 at his home following an illness.

Mr Smith was born November 6, 1944 in Elgin, Illinois. His parents were Amos Thomas and Gladys (Miller) Smith. He was raised in Illinois and had lived in Columbus the past 55 years.

He drove a truck for a number of years until 1974 when he began working for Dickie Clay. He last worked at the Columbus COOP for 17 years until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Victory Life Church in Columbus. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and being with his grandkids.

Arland was married to Rose Ann Burton January 1, 1965 in Columbus. She survives.








Additional survivors include one son, Alan Smith ( Patricia Wilson), Columbus; 3 daughters, Karla Fox (George Barlett Jr), Chetopa, Sherry Ewen (Randy), Columbus, and Cindy Morris (Virgil Witham Jr), Columbus; three brothers, Gene Smith (Linda), Eureka, Ill, Larry Smith (Nancy), Metamora, Ill, and Kenny Smith (Tina), Grove, OK; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Monday, April 13, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 regulations, no more than 10 people may visit the funeral home at one time.

Private graveside services will be at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Park Cemetery, Columbus, KS.

A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be given to the funeral home to help offset expenses.
