Stephen Keith

Stephen Bernard Keith, born in Bentonville, AR, April 27, 1947. Stephen passed from this life into the arms of the lord, April 6, 2020 at home with family by his side, at the age of 72.

Stephen lived in Baxter Springs KS for most of his life and graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1965.

Stephen met Joyce in 1963 and united in marriage with his high school sweetheart on July 16th, 1965. He became staff sergeant in the Air Force stationed in England from 1966 to 1970. After serving 4 years in the US Air Force, he attended Spartan Aviation in Tulsa OK. Stephen returned to hometown of Baxter and began working for Yellow Freight from 1972- 1998 upon retirement.

Steve spent a great deal of time outdoors. When he was younger he often went camping, hunting, and fishing. He was involved in archery shoots and went bowhunting and bow fishing. He also enjoyed landscaping, mowing, and anything that required a tractor. He loved tooling around in his golf cart and would often meet friends for coffee where they kept one another informed of local happenings. When visiting him you could always count on a western to be on TV. Steve loved his family and regaled them all with his unique witticisms and sage advice.










He is survived by his wife, Joyce Vaughan Keith; son, Stephen Jason Keith; daughter, Stephanie Jean Keith; mother, Dona Lee Keith; sister, Jan E. Shafer; grandchildren, Samantha, Troy, Zak, Kali, Katie; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Banks Keith; grandparents Melvin Cleo Hull and Geneva Hull; Troy Daniel Keith and Sarah Gertrude Keith.

Stephen has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel of Baxter Springs.

The family will hold a celebration of life with a date to be determined.
