Danny Pennock

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Daniel Wayne “Danny” Pennock, 77, of Galena, Kansas, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at his home.

Danny was born August 22, 1942, in Riverton, Kansas, to the late Jonathan and Maxine (LaTurner) Pennock. He was a 1960 graduate of Riverton High School. Following high school, Danny attended Joplin Junior College. On May 12, 1961, Danny was united in marriage to JoAnn Dyson and together they had three children, Tina, Tracy and Alan.

Danny made a successful career as a truck driver and drove for over 33 years. He retired in 1998 from Yellow Freight. Danny was also a part of the Teamsters freight division union, which was something he was very proud of. He enjoyed watching old westerns and also enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing in his younger years. Danny liked the simple things, including tending to his cattle and spending time outside on the farm. He loved his family deeply and selflessly provided for them. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with his entire heart.

Danny was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Scott.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, JoAnn Pennock, of the home; daughter, Tracy Pennock, of Galena, Kansas; grandchildren, Amanda Williams and husband, Nathan, Roman Peña, Alayna Pennock and Madalynne Pennock; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kate, Kyleigh, Josh and Jax; brother, Pepper Pennock, and wife, Barbara, of Riverton, Kansas; uncle, Rick Pennock, of Galena; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2020, at Quaker Valley Cemetery in Riverton, Kansas, with Pastor Roger Scantlin officiating. No formal visitation will be held, but friends are welcome to pay their respects at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin.
