Linda L. Martin, age 79, Galena, passed away at 5:26 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Mercy Hospital.
Linda was born November 30, 1940 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Ernest 'Red' Barber and Gertrude 'Gertie' Barber.
Linda worked for the Bartlesville School District for over twenty years, helping to serve meals to over 600 students daily. Most of that time was spent at Central Junior High School. Following retirement, she enjoyed time spent at the Galena Senior Citizens Center, where she belonged to the 'Tuesday Club', played cards and made lunch trips at the area casinos.
Besides ‘The Club’ and lunch with friends, Linda spent her mornings studying with The Shepherd’s Chapel, Pastor Arnold Murray. She loved Jesus and wanted others to know Him. Her next love was family. She was always there for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also loved her neighbors. If you lived by her, you became family. She was a hugger. If she just met you, you got a hug. Her life can be summed up as…She loved God, family, and everyone she came in contact with.
She married Jerry Martin in January of 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Sherry Martin Hayes, Galena; grandchildren, Jerry Gardinier and wife, Emily, Wichita, KS; Natalie Ballard and husband, John, Pittsburg, Kansas; Drew Hayes, Wichita, Kansa;, Matt Martin and wife, Dawnya, Bartlesville, OK; Ashley Martin, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Allison Henderson and husband, Jeremy, Galena, Kansas; Rachel Martin, Pittsburg, Kansas; and great grandchildren, Isaac, Tristan, and Jace Gardinier, Bailey Ballard, Maddie and Riley Martin, Hadley Henderson.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a daughter, Gertrude 'Trudi' Martin; a son, Terry Martin; a brother, Fred Smith; and a grandmother, Della Sullenger.
Family memorial services are being planned for a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
