Joan Moffett

Joan Bernice Moffatt, 86, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:20 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital.

She was born August 4, 1932, at Chicopee, KS, to Raymond Albert and Clara Leona “Peggy” (Abshire) Kern.

Joan graduated from Pittsburg High School and Pittsburg State.

On January 10, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ralph Thomas Moffatt. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1965.

Joan worked at Pittsburg State University as an administrative assistant for 24 years.

She enjoyed reading, golfing and gardening.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, patron of Pittsburg Public Library, Via Christi Ladies Auxiliary, and a proud supporter of the SEK Humane Society.


Joan is survived by a son, Gary Moffatt of Douglasville, GA; a daughter, Sue Lynn Russell of Frontenac, KS; two grandsons, Tom Moffatt of Douglasville, GA, and Jake Russell of Ash Grove, MO; a granddaughter, Julie Garner of Douglasville, GA; four great-grandsons and one great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ralph Thomas Moffatt.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday (December 29) at the Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Pat Nixon officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorials to the S.E.K. Humane Society. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
