Charlie Petty

Charles “Charlie” James “Jim” Petty, Sr., 75, of Erie, died at 11:46 A.M., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita.

He was born March 22, 1943 at Kansas City, KS, a son of Virgil William and Bertha “Birdie” Blanche (Baughn) Petty. His family moved to Chanute at an early age where he was raised.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine Marie Nesbitt on November 11, 1961 at Chanute. She preceded him in death on August 7, 1997. He later married Dorathy Edwards on December 4, 1998 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at Erie. She survives of the home.

Mr. Petty was employed at the Mid America Refinery and the Consolidated Oil, both at Chanute. More recently he was a truck driver at the Hardwood Products Saw Mill and also drove a truck for Frontier Leasing, retiring in 2005.



In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons – Charles Petty, Jr., and his wife, Trudy, Oswasso, OK, Vernon Petty, and his wife, Melissa, St. Paul, KS, Mike Clark, and his wife, Nina, Paola, KS; two daughters – Shawna Perkins, and her husband, James, Winfield, KS, Katy Clark, Erie, KS; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren (with one on the way); four sisters – Loleta and Haskins, and her husband, Bill Haskins, Van Buren, AR, Vergie “Sunny” Kustanborter, and her husband, David Kustanborter, Bullhead City, AZ, Belinda Joyce “Jo” Allen, Andover, KS, Sharon Sandbothe, and her husband, Frank, of Sherman City, TX; one brother – Michael Petty, and his wife, Susie, Iola, KS. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother – Tommy Leon Petty and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran at Erie with Pastor Jay Hobson officiating. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at the PIERCE-CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME at Erie.
