Connie Womble

(From Brenner Mortuary)

Connie Womble loved being a nurse, almost as much as she loved being a wife, mother and proud “Nana” to her three grandchildren. Connie Sue (Lloyd) Womble died on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. She was 69.

Connie was born on Sept. 29, 1949, in Ottawa to Evan S. and Dorothy (Dodd) Lloyd. She grew up on the family farm near Princeton and attended elementary school in Princeton, graduating from Ottawa High School in 1967.

Connie studied nursing at the Stormont Vail School of Nursing in Topeka, Kan., where she also attended Washburn University. She worked as a registered nurse for 45 years, retiring for health reasons in 2015. Her long nursing career began in Topeka and included stints in Clay Center, Pittsburg and Girard. Although she worked in a number of capacities, Connie especially loved cardiac care and intensive care. She served for many years as director of nursing services at Girard Medical Center, where she worked for 25 years before finishing her career in the Cardiac Step-Down unit at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Connie enjoyed sharing the knowledge she gained through her years of experience with student nurses and nurses who were early in their careers. She served on a number of professional advisory boards. Although she worked as an administrator for many years, Connie's first love was direct patient care and she was blessed to complete her years as a nurse doing just that.

Connie married Kenneth R. (Ron) Womble on Sept. 24, 1977, in Ottawa. They first lived in Clay Center, Kan., moving to Pittsburg in 1979.

Connie was passionate about her family and was a proud attendee at countless ball games, dance recitals, school programs and any events involving her two children and, in recent years, her three grandchildren, to whom she was known simply as “Nana.”

A lifelong United Methodist, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Evan and Dorothy Lloyd; her sister, Linda Tesar; and her brother, John Lloyd.

She is survived by her husband, Ron, of the home; her son and his wife, Ken and Lynae Womble of Pittsburg; her daughter, Kerstin Womble of Pittsburg; and three grandchildren, Kylie, Abby and Nate, of Pittsburg.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, (Dec. 21) at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Chambers officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date in the Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Marchant Organ Fund at the First United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. KS.
