David George

David L. George, 77, of Pittsburg, KS, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the Via Christi Hospital.

He was born on November 27, 1941, at Columbus, KS, to Lawrence W. and Emma (Burton) George. David was raised in Columbus, KS, and graduated from Columbus High School in 1959.

On December 3, 1960, he married Kathryn Harry in Pittsburg, KS, She preceded him in death on July 28, 2015.

David worked at Metz’s Brothers garage as a mechanic for a time and also at Dickey Clay Manufacturing. He went to work for Kansas City Southern Railroad in 1963 as a brakeman and later as a conductor retiring in 1996. During that time he served as local union chairman for several years.

After retirement he became an avid bee keeper and was one of the first to sell at the farmer’s market in Pittsburg. David could work on and fix nearly anything. He loved the many hours he spent working on and restoring cars with his son and many friends. He was also an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed deer hunting.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Kathryn. He is survived by a son, Larry George (Paula) of Pittsburg, KS; a grandson, Kyle George of Topeka, KS; a brother, Joe George (Patsy) of Baxter Springs, KS; a brother in law, Glenn Harry (Gail) of Michigan and many nieces and nephews.



A service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary with Reverend Linda Stotler officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Grace United Methodist Church and/or Angels Among Us.
