David Godsey

David Alan Godsey, 69, of Pittsburg, passed away at 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg.

He was born November 19, 1949, at Neosho, MO, the son of Edward R. and Dixon (Campbell) Godsey. David went on to graduate from Humboldt High School and then Pittsburg State University in 1972 with a degree in Marketing.

He was united in marriage to Sandra Carpino on August 4, 1973, at Pittsburg, KS. Together they celebrated 45 years. She survives of the home, Pittsburg.

David worked in the retail grocery business for many years. After the grocery business, he and his sons started and operated a lawn care business for several years. In 1998, David and his sons, opened a Sears Store in Parsons, KS and then shortly thereafter acquired a second store in Pittsburg, KS.



Membership was held in the South Broadway Baptist Church, Pittsburg, where he was very active and held several different positions. David had also been heavily involved with the Jaycees. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He also liked watching and listening to Pittsburg State Football games. David was always helping others. He was most proud of his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Aaron Godsey and his wife, Amanda, and their two children, Preston and Sawyer Godsey, and Drew Godsey and his wife, Brittany and their child, Grayson Godsey and one sister, Jeanne Poague.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred Godsey.

A service for David is set for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2019, at the South Broadway Baptist Church, Pittsburg, with Reverend Dan Moss conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. The family suggests memorials to the South Broadway Baptist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
