Brad Long

James Braden Long, age 39 of rural Columbus, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017.

Brad was born August 14, 1978 in Joplin, MO to James Henry Long Jr and Rebecca Jane Grebe Long. They survive.

Brad graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, KS and lived in Parsons, Altamont, and Commerce, OK before moving to rural Columbus to help his father with farm work.

He was an avid historian of his family and world events and would gladly talk in detail about almost any subject. He loved the rural, farm life and he and his son, Henry Vance Long loved to garden. He was a big man with a big heart.

His grandparents, James Henry and Mildred Alberta Long, and Uncle George Long, preceded Brad in death. In addition to his parents Brad is survived by his son, Henry Vance Long (mother Courtney McAlvain), and grandparents Jack and Lucille Grebe. He is also survived by three brothers, Johnathon Long, (wife, Kristen and daughter Hattie), Nathaniel Long, and Andrew Long (daughter Gabby) and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena, KS is handling cremation arrangements. Private funeral services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund for his son Henry will be established; information can be obtained from family members
