Darwin Potter

Darwin Lee Potter, age 84 of Galena, passed away at his home at 5:00 AM on Thursday, February 20, 2020 following an illness.

Darwin was born in Battle Creek, MI on April 21, 1935 to his mother and father, Robert G. Potter and Helen (Resnick) Potter. He served our country in the Army National Guard, and was also enlisted in the US Army during the 1960’s. He began working at A&P Grocery Store as a bag boy and, through a series of promotions, became a store manager. Most recently, he had worked in maintenance at St. John’s Hospital, retiring in the mid 2000’s. He was a member of Riverton House of Prayer in Riverton, KS, and was also a member of the Lion’s Club. He enjoyed metal detecting, treasure hunting, bowling, and collecting die cast cars and baseball cards.

He was united in marriage with Esther Sue McMullen on August 27, 1961 in St. Petersburg, FL. They had lived in Seminole, FL, and moved to Southeast Kansas in 1983. She survives of the home.








Additional survivors include two sons, Adam Dale Potter (wife, Shonda) of Baxter Springs, and Steven Daniel Potter (wife, Tracey) of Hernando, FL; one daughter, Laura Lee Wilson (husband, Don) of Spring Hill, Fl; two brothers, Robert G. Potter (wife, Jackie) of Morriston, FL, and Alan L. Potter of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister, Janet Ruckdeschel of St. Petersburg, FL; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Potter; and one sister, Ann Hadley.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Riverton House of Prayer. Pastor Audie Tash will officiate. Burial will follow at Quaker Valley Cemetery in Riverton.

Visitation will take place at the church on the same day of the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
