Shelia Marque

Shelia Darlene Marque 68, of Pittsburg, KS died 5:22pm Thursday March 5, 2020 at the Freeman Hospital in Joplin, MO following an illness.

Shelia was born April 4, 1951 in Chanute, KS the daughter of William Travis and Verda Lois (Looney) Fisher. Shelia graduated from Chanute High School in 1969. Later she attended Neosho County Community College and Pittsburg State University earning a B.S Degree in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master’s Degree specializing in Def and Blindness.

On February 19, 1971 Shelia married Frank K. Marque in Erie, KS; he survives at the home. Shelia worked as an Educator for the State of Kansas as a Rehab Teacher for the blind. She also worked for Labette County Community College.

Shelia was of the Methodist Faith; was known as the 1st blind person to graduate from Pittsburg State University; donated her time as an audible reader in Lawrence, KS for 25 years; secretary for AARP; 4-H Leader; Girl Scout Leader and operated a day care for 10 years.










Survivors include her husband; children Cathy J. Caylor and husband Michael of Buffalo, KS, Jo Anna Iden of Chanute, KS and Travis E. Marque of Brighton, CO; sister Sherril Spradley of Chanute, KS; nephew Chris Spradley of Chanute, KS; grandchildren Michael Allen, Ashley Caylor, Jon Caylor, Breanna Iden, Austyn Iden, Ashley Iden, Vincent Marque and Blake Marque.

Shelia was preceded in death by her parents and 2 seeing eye dogs.

Funeral Services will be 10:00am Wednesday March 11, 2020 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS. 

Family will receive friends from 6-7:00pm Tuesday March 10, 2020 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS; friends may call after 2:00pm Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Pilot Dogs of Columbus, Ohio.
