John York

John M. York of Oswego Kansas passed away February 27, 2020 at Quaker Hill Nursing Home in Baxter Springs, Ks after a brief illness.

John was born October 26, 1936 in Columbus Ks. to Carl C. York and Lula Mae York( Carroll). He grew up in Columbus and Graduated high school there. After high school he joined the Navy and spent that time on a air carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. After the Navy he lived in San Francisco California. He joined the California jump club and became a master jumper and toured the USA doing Jump expeditions.The movie rip cord is based off the club and jumping formations.

After returning to Columbus, he married Deborah J. Thornburg of Scammon on January 11, 1969, they were later divorced. During that time he worked at P&M coal mine as a welder , he then went to Alaska and worked on the Pipeline in Perdue Bay , Alaska. Above the article circle. After returning him and his wife decided to build a Sonic, in 1979 in Oswego, Ks.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter and shared that with his two sons.








Surviving are his sons, John Craig York, Columbus, Ks. Eric York, Wichita,Ks and daughter Mona Barker, Iola, Ks. 8 grandkids and 8 great grandkids..

He was preceeded in death by his Parents and a Brother, Carl W.York, and a Sister Carolyn Martin.

Cremation Arrangements are being handled through Derfelt funeral home of Columbus Ks.Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Columbus with Graveside services at that time.
