Margie Ruth Jones, age 89, passed away at 6:35 pm, Saturday, September 28, 2019 in Columbus KS following an illness.
Mrs. Jones was born May 2, 1930 in rural Columbus. Her parents were Raymond and Ruth (Mack) Heistand. She had lived in Cherokee County KS all of her life.
She graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1948, and enjoyed her time with the girls from her class. She remained close to her classmates, regularly meeting for dinner. She moved to Columbus in 2003. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, rural Columbus. She had worked 20 years as a catalog and credit manager at JC Penney’s in Joplin, Missouri, retiring in the early 1990’s. Margie especially loved her grandkids and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed redbirds, KU Basketball, and Kansas City Royals Baseball.
Margie was married to John H Jones on March 8, 1949. He preceded her in death August 29, 2003. One daughter, Deborah Walker and three brothers, Clarence, Frank, and Fred Heistand also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Thompson (Daryell), Columbus, KS; one sister, Shirley Whitely, Baxter Springs, KS; two sister -in-laws, Judy Jones, Galena, and Betty Heistand, Columbus; four grandchildren, Amber Reeves (James), Aaron Thompson (Maria), Vanessa Neher (Jeremy) and Jon Walker; and 6 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Remington, Freya, Gunner, Elsie, and Miles. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS. Pastor Larry Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, KS.
