Darrell Neal

Darrell D Neal, age 69, passed away at 3:31 am, Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Medicalodge in Neosho MO following an illness.

Darrell was born December 11, 1949 in Baxter Springs, KS. His parents were William Ray and Marguerite Irene (O’Dell) Neal. He was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County KS. He was also a man of faith and enjoyed worshiping at Crossroads Christian Church, Baxter Springs, KS.

He was a self-employed farmer and truck driver. He loved working on the farm especially during hay season. He was a horseman and enjoyed riding on the horse drawn carriage pulled by his faithful horse, Pretty Girl. Pretty Girl preceded him in death. He was known for telling tall tales.








He was a U S Army veteran of the Vietnam war, receiving the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze star; Sharp Shooter Badge; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Hobert Neal, Ferrell Neal, and Larandal Neal, and one sister, Yvette Shira.

Darrell was married to Jean Marie Schoelzel on May 27, 2007 in Monett, MO. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Brandon Geer (wife, Beth) and Grant Geer, both of Galena, KS.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS. Jake Stivers will officiate. Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, Baxter Springs, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:30 pm, Friday, October 18, 2019 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn in care of the funeral home.
