Susanne (Overend) Hess, age 86, passed away at 12:10 am, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Missouri following an illness.
Ms. Hess was born August 20, 1933 in Pleasant Grove Township, MN. Her parents were Francis Austin and Marvel Allene (Kendall) Overend. She had lived most of her life in Rochester MN area before moving to Baxter Springs and then Galena 5 years ago.
She had worked as a librarian at the Rochester Vocational Technical College before her retirement in the late 1980’s. She was of the Christian faith. Susanne enjoyed volunteering as a mentor at schools and had also helped as a caregiver to the elderly.
Surviving are two daughters, Belinda Egermeier (husband Keith), Baxter Springs, KS and Julie Sanstead (husband Mark), Hastings, MN; two brothers Francis Overend, Stewartville, MN, and Patrick Overend, Mantorville, MN; one sister, Mary Hawley, Rochester, MN; 4 grandchildren and many loving great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three siblings, Carol Roer, Allene Coty, and David Overend.
Susanne was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation. The family is planning a private service at a later date.
Contributions in memory of Susanne may be made to the Galena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
