Pam Shepard

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved and devoted mother Pamela Jay Shepard at her home on 23 September 2019 at the age of 73.

Pam was born August 14, 1946 in Corpus Christi, TX. Her parents were Gene and Beverly (New) Mavity. Pam grew up in Ottawa, Kansas and was very active in 4H as a young child. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1964.

After attending 2 years of collage at Emporia State University she was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart Michael Shepard on 26 August 1967.

Following Mike's completion of dental school and a tour of service in the Air Force, they moved to Baxter Springs, KS to raise their young children Jason and Jenny. In 1982, she returned to college in pursuit of a teaching degree.

In 1984 Pam received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. She enjoyed being in the classroom and working with students with learning disabilities so much that she decided to pursue a Masters in Special Education. Pam accomplished this goal in 1993. She taught Special Education at Riverton High School for 22 years.

Pam was a dedicated mother and wife giving her all to her family and was a true definition of a friend, always ready to lend a helping hand. She devoted herself to her children, and cherished her role of Nana to her 5 grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baxter Springs, KS serving on committees at various levels during her time there.

Pam is preceded in death by her parents Gene and Beverly Mavity. Survivors include, her husband, Dr. Michael Shepard; children Jason Shepard and Jenny Sikes and their families; her sister, Meredith Roush and brother, Ron Mavity; and several nieces and nephews.
