Vickie Smith

Vickie Smith, 69, of Erie, died at 2:26 a.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at her home. She had been in failing health.

She was born November 6, 1949, in Parsons, to Dean and Helen (Gough) Stipp. She lived with her family in Thayer until moving to Erie in 1960. She graduated from Erie High School in 1969.

She worked as a C.N.A./C.M.A at nursing homes and was employed at Guest Home Estates in Erie until September of 2018.

Vickie loved spending time with her family and looked forward to gatherings every Labor Day at the family cabin on the Neosho River. She enjoyed gardening and “flower borrowing”, where she received bulbs from other gardens and re-planted them in her beds. She also liked canning and hunting mushrooms.







Surviving are three children, Jeana Harris (husband Danny), of Joplin, Troy Houghton (Sherri Brown) and Justin Houghton (wife Theresa), of Erie; 13 grandchildren; 5great-grandchildren; brothers, Lonnie Stipp (wife Tohnjua) and Gary Stipp (wife Karen), of Erie and sister, Donna Lowe (husband Bill), of Sand Springs, OK. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and her beloved dog, Rennie.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie. Burial will follow in the East Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Memorials are suggested to the Galesburg Relief Fund or Kindred Hospice. They may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 182, Erie, KS 66733.
