Lydia Tarver

Lydia Ruth Tarver was born to Lowell Alvin Tarver, Jr. and Velma Ree Jackson Tarver on July 28, 1956, formerly Mercy Hospital. She went to Garfield Elementary School, Parsons Junior High School, Senior High School, and Labette Community College. She worked at Fred Ronald’s and the Parsons State Hospital & Training Center to earn money for college. Lydia earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Evangel Bible College of the Assemblies of God Church in Springfield, Missouri. She continued studying until she received her Masters Degree in Special Education.

Lydia was a Middle School Science Teacher and eventually became a Special Education teacher in Wichita, Kansas. She worked there until she retired in 2014. She went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer on February 9, 2019.

Lydia loved the Lord. She loved going to church. She was a member of Pleas Chapel Church of God in Christ when the pastor was Elder Virgil Watson while living in Parsons, KS and was a member of Faith Metro when she moved to Wichita, KS. At Pleas Chapel she attended Sunday School and participated in many holiday programs and the choir. She was a member of the Ebony Angels. When she moved to Wichita, KS she taught Sunday school at Faith Metro. Lydia was very creative. She was a very good seamstress making heirloom blankets for the family that had pictures of the family members on them. She also made beautiful ceramic figurines.






Lydia was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather and grandmother Lowell A. Tarver, Sr. and Irene Tarver, her father Lowell A. Tarver, Jr., and her sister Susan Williams. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Corrine Jackson. She leaves to mourn her mother Velma Tarver Harding, her only daughter Monica Tarver and her children Asa and Genesys Tarver. Two sisters Minister Deborah Waters (Kenneth) Highland, California, and their sons Jared Tarver and Elijah Joseph, and Christie Tarver – San Diego, California, along with Susan’s (Bill Williams) children Isaac Tarver, Russ Williams, her daughter Suzette Williams and son Brennan, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Watson Memorial Church of God In Christ in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m., Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
