Elveta Dorris

Elveta E. Dorris, age 86, of Erie, Kansas was called Home on February 26, 2019. Elveta is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dorris to whom she was married for 58 years before his death in 2007. She is also preceded in death by 9 siblings including Oda Dawson, Joan Volk, and Olvie Elmer.

Elveta is survived by her son, Mike Dorris, of Chanute, Kansas; her daughter, Nancy Wolfe, of Rockville, Maryland; and her daughter, Jennifer Dorris, of Gambrills, Maryland. She also is survived by: sister, Beattrice Gafni of Afula, Israel; grandson, Jeff Wolfe: grandson Robert Wolfe: grandson, Adrian Dorris; granddaughter, Alisa Stucky; great-granddaughter, Brennan Wolfe; great-granddaughters, Zoe and Bridgette Stucky-Dorris. Also dear to Elveta were her niece and nephew-in-law Martha and Ray Hizey and their family. Elveta also treasured her relationship with special family friends Matthew, Joshua, Julie, Rachel, Hannah, Adam, Emily, and Harmony Thornton.

Elveta was born to the Newberry family at Hilltop, Arkansas on August 10, 1932. When she was a very young child the family relocated to rural Erie. Elveta graduated from Erie High School in 1949 and shortly thereafter married Navy Veteran Robert Dorris. Early in their marriage, the couple relocated to Fort Worth, Texas where Elveta was employed by General Dynamics for a time. After their return to Erie, Elveta worked for some years at the Erie Clinic before beginning a career at the Parsons Area SRS. She retired in 1994.







At the age of 24, Elveta trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the Terrace Acres Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Until health restricted her church activities in recent years, she loved working with children and youth groups in every church she attended.

After her husband’s passing, Elveta and her family donated his sculptures to the Erie Dinosaur Park. Those wishing to do so may make donations to the park.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Erie, with Rev. Danny Flippo officiating. A private interment will be held later at the Dunkard-Brethren Cemetery, rural Erie. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until service time Friday. Memorials are suggested to the Erie Baptist Church to be used for children’s ministry. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 182, Erie, KS 66733.
