Edith Hamilton

(From Brumback-Bland Funeral Home)

Edith Nadine (Burchett) Hamilton, born in Cedar County, Missouri on April 18, 1925, died January 30, 2019 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 93.

She was the last survivor of 13 children born to George E. and Pearl M. (Brock) Burchett. Edith married Roe Norman Hamilton on the eve of his deployment overseas on November 11, 1942, and he preceded her in death. Roe and Edith were married for 67 and a half years.

She worked at Sears-Roebuck & Co. in Kansas City; operated one of the last two remaining in-home crank switchboards in the country; and also worked briefly as an in-home caregiver and in a factory. Edith was an avid quilter and crafter. She served as an election judge for every election as far back as anyone can remember. Edith selflessly gave to the entire community and extended family without being asked. She was the loving, protective, and proud mother of five children, grandmother to eleven children, and great-grandmother to twelve children. Edith was saved and baptized in Mt Enon Missionary Baptist Church September 14, 1958 and was still a member.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her children, Sheila Pendergrass of Pittsburg, Kansas; Dennis Hamilton (Lynda) Oak Grove, Missouri; Howard Hamilton (Glenis) of Cedar County, Missouri; Brenda Procter (Michael) of Columbia, Missouri; and Lisa Goldschmidt (Michael) of Columbia, Missouri; and a large extended family and many friends.

Visitation will be 12:00 PM, and services at 1:00 PM, Monday, 2/4/19, in Brumback-Bland Funeral Home in Stockton, Missouri. Burial will follow in Caplinger Mills Cemetery.
