Anna Mae Brown

Anna Mae (Shanks) Brown, 67, of Girard, Kansas, died on February 18, 2019 at her home. She was born September 2, 1951 in Columbus, Kansas. She was the daughter of Orlan and Lucille (Bruce) Shanks. Anna Mae graduated from Columbus Unified High School in 1969. She graduated from Kansas State University in 1973.

Anna Mae and Dennis Brown were united in marriage July 20, 1974. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Time with all family and extended family was very important to her. Anna Mae was extremely involved with 4-H and youth activities throughout life. She worked as the Crawford County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent from 1990 to 2014. She was a member of the Mid America Sewing Guild. In her retirement, sewing, making quilts and enjoying her grandchildren was her joy and passion. 







She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dennis, of the home, daughter Ginger Carlisle and husband Chad of Attica, Kansas, son Dale Brown and wife Kelly of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, and daughter Amy Dronberger and husband Jason of Perkins, Oklahoma. She is also survived by beloved grandchildren Cale and Peytyn Carlisle, Samantha, Wyatt, and Clayton Brown, Madison and soon to arrive Luke Dronberger. Anna Mae is also survived by her sister, Linda (Kenney) Griffitt; and brothers Dennis (Vicki), Bob (Marta), and Bruce John Shanks. Her survivors also included many nieces, nephews and other close family members. 

Anna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Cooper Carlisle, and mother and father-in-law, Audrey and Jim Brown.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Chuck Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to Wildcat Extension Education Foundation for a scholarship and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
