Gordon Rexwinkle

Gordon Lee Rexwinkle, 90, Edna, died at 9:05 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
He was born March 22, 1929, in Altamont, to Clifford L. and Opaline (Goodwin) Rexwinkle.

His early years were spent in several locations in Labette County and in 1946 he graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952.

On December 18, 1954 he and Eva M. Nelson were married at the First Methodist Church in Parsons.Since 1963 they have made their home on a farm at Edna. Gordon retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1985 and farmed throughout his life.

He was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church and had been active with the Labette County Fair Board and the Edna Round-Up Club. He loved to compete and attend rodeos.








Survivors are his wife, Eva, of the home; son, Mike Rexwinkle (Tammy) of Edna; daughter, Lee Ann Lay (Nick) of Ochelata, OK; grandson, Cody Lay of Ochelata, OK; sisters, Arlene Miller of Medicine Lodge and Mary Reed (Jerald) of Parsons; brother, Eugene Rexwinkle (Janet) of Parsons; sister-in-law, Coleen Rexwinkle of Great Bend; several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were brothers Milburn S. Rexwinkle and Darrel Rexwinkle and sister Marjorie Humphrey.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Edna United Methodist Church, with Rev. Nicole Schwartz-Eck officiating. Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 8.
