Mildred Waring

Mildred A. Waring, 101, of Parsons, died at 10:38 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the home of her daughter in Parsons.

Mildred Allean (Gilpin) Waring was born November 4, 1918 south of Edna, Kansas in Craig County, Oklahoma to B. F. and Emma (Davidson) Gilpin. The family lived in southern Labette County until January 1935 when they moved to Parsons. Mildred was a graduate of Labette County High School, class of 1936.

She attended Parsons Business College and Southwestern Bible School at Enid, Oklahoma. She worked as a receptionist for Dr. T. D. Blasdel before going to work at the former State Hospital for Epileptics in the Dietary Department. She moved to California during World War II and worked for the Department of the Navy in Alameda, California. After the war she worked for the California Pacific Title Insurance Company.








She married William L. Waring on February 20, 1945 in Oakland, California and they later divorced. She returned to Parsons in November 1955 with her three daughters. She went to work at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center in March 1956 and remained there until she retired as the Dietary Supervisor in November 1983.

Mildred is survived by her caregivers, daughter Charlean and husband Keith Wilson of Parsons, Miriam and Doyal Saye of Dennis and Alice Smith of Bella Vista, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Michelle Heincker and husband Tim of Pittsburg, Jason Mansfield of Muskego, Wisconsin, Aaron Wilson of Lancaster, Ohio, Andrea Merrin and husband Steve of Bellefontaine, Ohio; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She also is survived by a sister, Charlean Knogge, of Murrieta, California and numerous nieces and nephews and families.

Preceding her in death were two sisters, Naomi Wheat and Margie Gilpin and a brother, Madison Gilpin.

Mildred was an accomplished seamstress and an exceptional cook. In retirement she was active in the Women’s Ministry at the First Assembly of God Church. She was a caregiver for her aunt, Ruby Crowe and her sister, Margie Gilpin. She found time to piece over 100 quilts of all sizes and over 250 comfort pillows for friends. She supported the comfort pillow ministry of her grandson-in-law, Rev. Steve Merrin.

She was a charter member of the Southeast Kansas Audubon Society and held various offices over the years, including president. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons since 1936.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in the Edna Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Friday.
