Billie Smith

Willis "Billie" V. Smith, 92, of Pittsburg, passed away at 12:48 a.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg. 

She was born March 31, 1925, at Trenton, MO, the daughter of Thomas D. and Eula (Tharp) Ricketts. 

She was united in marriage to Eugene W. Smith in October of 1950. He preceded her in death in February of 1986. Mrs. Smith worked for Spencer Chemical, was a bookkeeper for Crestwood Country Club and was a personal assistant for several individuals throughout the years. Membership was held in the First Christian Church early in life and more recently the Countryside Christian Church, Pittsburg. She was actively involved in the local Mother to Mother Ministry for several years. Mrs. Smith enjoyed playing Pinochle, reading the Wall Street Journal, watching financial programs on CNBC and most importantly spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

 She is survived by two daughters, Mareta Smith of Kansas City, MO, and Marcia Sorrick and her husband, Dave of rural Pittsburg, KS, two granddaughters, Rachel Woolbright and her husband, Ben, and Sarah Scales and her husband, Kyle, three great granddaughters, Olivia Woolbright, Emma Scales and Mackenzie Scales, one sister, Nola Clark, one sister-in-law, Marvella Ricketts and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Larry Ricketts and one sister, Kathleen Corrigan. 

A memorial service is set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Countryside Christian Church, Pittsburg, with Pastor Bryce Hotchkiss conducting the service. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11:00 a.m., Tuesday to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials to the Countryside Christian Church and/or Countryside Christian School.
