Adele Quier

Adele Vodicka Quier, 93, of Frontenac, KS, passed from this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018. 

She was born November 2, 1924 at Karlin, MO, a Czech rural community located north of Bolivar, MO, to Joseph and Genoefa “Effie” (Dvorak) Vodicka. Adele received her education at a rural elementary school; high school at St de Chantel Academy (Elfindale); and her degree in Primary Education at Southwest Missouri Teachers College (SMU). In her junior and senior years, she assisted in helping the first grade supervisor of Greenwood Laboratory Training School for Teachers. She taught in Missouri schools for eight years. 

When teaching in Joplin at Irving School her friends introduced her to Jack W. Quier from Pittsburg, KS. On July 9, 1953 she and Jack were united in marriage. After becoming a Kansas resident, she enrolled at Pittsburg State Teacher’s College for graduate study to receive her Kansas Teacher Certification. In October, she was asked to fulfill the year teaching the first four grades at Lone Star. The following year she started teaching first grade at Lincoln Elementary School in Pittsburg. She taught first grade for Pittsburg USD250 for 21.5 years “on and off” to be a stay at home mom until her two children were of school age. Besides Lincoln School, she taught at Washington and Lakeside. She retired in 1986. She was a member of NEA, KNEA, PEA, and Delta Kappa Honorary Education Society for Women. Retirement gave her more time to spend with her husband, children, grandchildren and helping at Jack's Steak House and Tower Ballroom and helping her son at Zack's Restaurant. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and enjoyed the volunteer work when living in Pittsburg. After her husband's death she moved to Frontenac to be near family. She became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Alter Society. 

Survivors include; son Zack T. Quier and wife Denise, Pittsburg, KS; daughter Susan E. Murray and husband Brent, Frontenac, KS, four grandchildren , Ashley Quier, Fuquay Varina, NC, Dr. Joshua Quier of Medicine Lodge, KS, John Murray, Springfield, MO and Maggie Murray, Frontenac; and 1 great grandchild, Caleb Pope. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday (January 12) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will be in the Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir, KS. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests memorials be made to a local school district of your choice.
