Alberta DeBoutez

Alberta DeBoutez, 54, of Pittsburg, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital. 

She was born July 22, 1963, at Chanute, KS, to Albert and Shirley (Merchant) Powell. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1981. Alberta then attended Pittsburg State University and graduated with a degree in Social Work. She received her master’s degree in Social Work for the University of Kansas. Alberta worked for Elm Acres and several contractors providing child welfare service. She also worked for Southeast Kansas Juvenile Detention Center, Catholic Charities, and Via Christi Hospital. 

Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Rojo of Pittsburg, KS; a brother Raymond Powell and his wife Jerri of Decatur, TX; and four grandchildren Antonio Rojo, Javier Rojo, Graciela Rojo, and Natalia Rojo. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Tom Powell, a sister, Rebecca Powell and a stillborn sister Cindy Powell. 

Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Brenner Mortuary with Chaplain Adah Hutchcraft officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Wesley House.
