Sherrie Coltrain

Sherrie A. Coltrain, 70, of Parsons, passed away at 2:29 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Labette Health Emergency Room in Parsons

She was born on March 15, 1949 at Neodesha, Kansas to William J. and Aileen M. (Koyl) Coltrain. Sherrie grew up at Neodesha and attended Neodesha schools graduating from Neodesha High School in 1967. She attended and graduated from the Independence Beauty School in 1968.

Sherrie then moved to Parsons where she started her career in cosmetology and worked at the Professional Beauty Salon. She then moved to Iola where she was an instructor at the Iola Beauty College for four years. She returned to Parsons where she eventually purchased the Professional Beauty Salon. In 1985 the salon merged with Studio One Hair Fashions where she worked until her retirement in February of 2015. She was a member of the Kansas Cosmetology Association where she served as President. She was also a member of the Kansas Hair Fashion Committee where she served as chairman.










Sherrie was a devoted and faithful member of the First Christian Church of Parsons. She served the church as a deacon and elder. She has also been the Christian Education Director, Sunday School Teacher, and served on several other committees. Sherrie was a huge advocate for children’s ministries. She directed and counseled a number of church camps. She was also on the church regional camping board when they chose to purchase the Christian Hills Camp.

Sherrie loved her family dearly and loved to organize family reunions as well as class reunions. She loved her all of her customers and clients and thought of them as her extended family.

Sherrie’s hobbies included reading, studying the Bible, spinning, crocheting, knitting, entertaining, and especially cooking. She loved to cook and share with others. She had an extensive collection of cookbooks as well as paper weights and “snow babies”.

She is survived by her brother, Morris “Bud” Coltrain, and his wife, Manicel of Olathe, KS, two sisters, Billie Jo Coltrain of Parsons and Margaret McNally of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Jackson Coltrain.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the First Christian Church with The Reverend Laurie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 5:30-7p.m. Tuesday evening.
