Jerry Henry

Jerry Gene Henry, 75, of Altamont, died at 11:19 A.M., Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Cherryvale Nursing Home.

He was born May 16, 1943 at Parsons, a son of Elmer Gene and Virginia Ruth (Kirk) Henry. He was raised in Parsons and attended school here. Upon graduating from the Parsons High School, he received an Associate’s of Arts Degree from the Parsons Junior College and then a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial and Automotive Technology from the Pittsburg State University. He received his second Bachelor’s in Education and Industrial Arts. He later received his Master’s Degree in Education from Pittsburg State.

During his teenage years, Jerry worked for his father at Henry’s Phillips 66 Station at Parsons. After college he moved to Kenosha, WI and worked at American Motors in Kenosha. He returned to Parsons after two years and began teaching vocational auto technology and welding at Parsons High. He also taught auto shop and small gas engine classes at the Labette Community College. He operated Henry’s Auto Repair at Altamont for many years.



He and Annetta Faye Beeson were united in marriage on March 3, 1963 at the Angola Methodist Church. She survives of the home.

He was a member of the Oswego Christian Church and was a former, long-time member of the Central Avenue Christian Church and later First Christian of Parsons. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association and the Chapter T. Motorcycle Club in Joplin.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons and daughters in-law – Andrew J. and Dee Dee Henry, Marana, AZ, Joseph G. and Robyn Henry, Kingwood, TX; one daughter and son in-law – Julie Anne and Mike Bosworth, Smyrna, GA; six grandchildren – Belle and Blasé Henry, Marana, AZ, Lauren and Natalie Anne Spence, Smyrna, GA, Camille and Chloe Bosworth, Smyrna, GA; one sister and brother in-law – Donna R. and Chuck Puckett, Tustin, CA; two sisters in-law – Sheila J. Wolcott, Racine, WI, Marlita L. Wolford, Coffeyville, KS; four cousins – Dru Parlett, and her husband, Doyle, Altamont, KS, Lisa Gilsleider, and her husband Ed, Claremore, OK, Robert Bob” Burnett, and his wife, Pam, Shawnee, KS, Richard Burnett, and his wife, Barbara, Lenexa, KS; one uncle – George Henry, Claremore, OK; three nieces – Denise Dotson, Orange, CA, Janet Soens, East Troy, WI, Tammy Wolcott, Kenosha, WI; two nephews – Darren Puckett, El Dorado Hills, CA, Tim Wolcott, Burlington, WI. He was preceded in death by a brother in-law – John Wolcott.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the First Christian Church at Parsons with Reverends Laurie Lewis and Kent Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME.
