Chet Gofourth

Chester LeRoy “Chet” Gofourth, 87, of Parsons, passed away at 12:08 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2019 at the Presbyterian Manor of Parsons.

He was born April 28, 1931 in Parsons to William and Onah Lola Myers Gofourth. He attended Parsons schools.

He married Phyllis Helen Dixon on March 3, 1951, in Parsons. They later divorced. On December 15, 1975 he married Mavis Woods Dobson. She preceded him in death on Januar7 8, 2010.

Chester worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Commercial Publishers and IMI as a printer, TAS Auto Supply, and the State Hospital and Training Center as a boiler operator where he retired from in March 2001.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Chester enjoyed his family, singing, dancing, gardening, and tinkering in the tool shed where he often made his own tools.




Survivors include two sons, C.J. Gofourth of Parsons, Derrel Gofourth and his wife Milissa, his grandson Todd his wife Brandy, two great grandchildren, Paige and Chance of Stillwater Oklahoma. His step children, Fred and Donna Dobbins of Pittsburg Kansas, Dean and Angie Dobbins of Tyler Texas, Norma White of Longview, Texas, Robert and Dixie Slamans of Skiatook, Oklahoma, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Alma Pitts and Vida Sorrell and three brothers, Glen, William, and Delbert Gofourth.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jennifer Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home from 4 to 5 Sunday afternoon.
