Martha Gilman

Martha Christine Gilman, 56, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home in Nevada. Martha was born October 12, 1962 in Greeley, CO. She was united in marriage to David Ellis Gilman on November 20, 1982 in Chanute, KS and he survives of the home.

Martha came to Chanute, KS at a young age with her family and grew up there and in the Pittsburg, KS area. In 1985 she came to Nevada making this her home. Martha worked at Nevada Habilitation Center in food service, Rodeo Grill, and was currently employed by Truman Elementary in food service for the past four years. She was member of Life Church in Nevada. Martha enjoyed playing Bingo at the Elks and the Eagles, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She loved fishing, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, watching CSI, and attending her grandchildren’s activities.



In addition to her husband David, survivors include three children, Melinda Leon, Nevada, Zackory Gilman, Nevada, Christina Gilman, Springfield; six grandchildren, Destiny, Dav`id, Meckinize, Monica, Trayvon, Tyce; mother, Virginia Petty, Chanute, KS; two brothers, Charlie Smith, WV, Dennis Smith, Chanute, KS; two sisters, Charlia Mitchner, Chanute, KS; and Leona McBride, CO. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Smith, and Paul Smith; and her step-father, Darold Petty.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor’s Terry Mosher and Lawrence Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
