Dick Simpson

Charles Emil “Dick” Simpson, Jr., 96 of Columbus, KS passed from this life on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Mercy Maude Norton Hospital, Columbus, KS.

Dick was born on December 2, 1920 to the union of Charles Emil Simpson Sr., and Evelyn V. (Montgomery) Simpson. Dick was united in marriage to Nellie Irene (Coble) Simpson in Girard, KS in December of 1941. At a very young age Dick began farming and raising cattle, and he continued with his dream up until his passing. Dick was baptized at the First Christian Church in Columbus, KS, where he was a member.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Robert Simpson; one great grandchild, Ian Qualls.

Dick is survived by two daughters, Marlene Carlson and husband James of Columbus, KS, and Dollie Robison and husband Ron of Columbus, KS; two sons, David Simpson and wife Janie of Parsons, KS, and Dan Simpson of Parsons, KS; one sister, Margaret Smokewood and husband Darrell of Weir, KS; A longtime friend, Dewey Smith of Columbus, KS; eight grandchildren, Steven Carlson, Douglas Carlson, Bev Browne, Susie Calvin, Terra Jimenez, Brad Simpson, Phillip Robison, and Katy Qualls; eighteen great grandchildren, Joe Carlson, Chas Carlson, Cassie Stone, Jeremy Flora, Ryan Flora, Molly Browne, Kylee Sommer, Caleb Robison, Garett Mercer, Cass Mercer, Addison Calvin, Emilee Calvin, Adrianna Jimenez, Joseph, Logan, Caitlyn, Becca Simpson, Aaron Simpson; nine great-great grandchildren, Luke Carlson, Lily Carlson, Lizy Carlson, Logan Carlson, Emma Flora, Braxton Flora, Brynlee Flora, Kysen Robison, Kynlee Sommer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. Pastor Dennis Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lone Elm Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Pallbearers for the service are; Jeremy Flora, Ryan Flora, Cass Mercer, Garett Mercer, Chas Carlson, Joe Carlson. Honorary pallbearers are Caleb Robison, and Addison Calvin. Memorial donations may be made to the Columbus Foundation or First Christian Church in care of the funeral home.
