Merle Edward McLean, age 79, passed away at 1:20 pm, Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Mercy Hospital Joplin, MO following an illness.
Merle was born May 11, 1940 in Onowa, Iowa. His parents were Chester and Ada (Neosh) McLean. He had lived in Galena most of his life.
He married the love of his life, Carolyn Roach in 1960. She preceded him in death July 2, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Merle (Bud) McLean Jr, one grandson, Martin Elder, one brother, Bob McLean, and one sister, Barbara Malliot.
Surviving is one daughter, Lora Elder, Pioneer, CA; one stepson, Eric Mallatt (wife, Kelly) Strasburg, VA; three brothers, Joe McLean, Baxter Springs, KS, Elvin McLean, Baxter Springs, KS, and Charlie McLean, Arlington, TZ; one sister, Colleen Gandy, Galena; and three grandsons, Zack McLean, Michael Elder, and Noah Mallatt.
He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena Ks for cremation. The family will be hosting a memorial dinner at the Galena Senior Citizen’s Building at 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2019.
