Kenny Boone

Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Boone, 79, of Grove, Oklahoma, formally of Dennis, passed away at 6:03 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Grove.
He was born on November 8, 1940 in Prue, Oklahoma to Iva W. and Bonnie (Jones) Boone. 

Kenny grew up in the Oswego and Parsons area and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1959 and was the first class to walk across the stage at the new Harrison Auditorium. He later attended Parsons Junior College. He joined the United States Navy in 1959 and was stationed at San Diego, CA and had served in Japan.

Kenny started working at the MKT railroad in 1968 and continued working for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 2002. He and his wife, Rosie, later opened Booney’s Bar and Grill in Dennis and ran it for several years. Kenny was a 44-year member of the Parsons Elks Lodge No 527, and had served in several positions including Exalted Ruler and Grand Exalted Ruler of Southeast Kansas District Deputy. He enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, boating, camping, traveling, and overall having fun in the outdoors.

He and Carol Bendure were married on August 22, 1959 in Mason City, Iowa. They later divorced in 1988. He and Ruda Leslie were married on November 18, 1988 in Miami, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death in 1995. 

He and Rosella “Rosie” (Cookson) DeMotte were married on October 5, 1996 at their home in Dennis. She survives of the home in Grove, OK.








Other survivors include a son, Bruce Boone, and his wife, Pippa of Winfied; a daughter, Tammy Johnson, of Dennis; a daughter-in-law, Donita Boone, of Parsons, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Boone, on March 7, 2019, a son-in-law, Jon “JJ” Johnson; one brother and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. The family requests casual dress for the visitation and memorial service. Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Dennis. 

The family will have a gathering following the memorial service at the Parsons Elks Lodge, No 527 Members and Guest, 220 N. Central.
