Larry Burch

Larry Lee Burch, age 77, passed away at 12:29 am, Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri following an illness.

Larry was born May 19, 1942 in Baxter Springs, KS. His parents were Harry Raymond and Audrey Mildred (Shanks) Burch. He was a lifetime resident of Columbus.

He graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1960. He then entered the U S Air Force, serving for 4 years before returning to Columbus. For 43 years, he worked at the Columbus Daily Advocate.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Columbus, KS. He was also a member of the Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was an avid KC Chiefs fan and had coached the Rockettes Girls Softball team in Columbus.

Larry was married to Sharon Kay Beattie on September 28, 1967 in Miami, OK. She survives.








Additional survivors include three daughters, Becky Todd (Zane Jr) Overland Park, KS, Angela Degelman (Alan), Bryan, TX, and Lori Combs (Kevin), Columbus; one sister, Vivian Frost, Columbus, sister-in-law, Bonnie Burch; and eight grandchildren, Zane Todd III, Brittany Todd, Alexander Degelman, Austyn Degelman, David Combs, Korri Combs, Audrey Combs, and Sabrina Marten Combs, and many nieces and nephews. Several of his daughter’s friends affectionately called him “Dad”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronnie Joe Burch and Harry Burch.

He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS for cremation.

The family plans to host a memorial service at 1:00 pm, Friday, June 21, 2019 at First Christian Church, Columbus KS. Pastor John Warring will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Girls Softball Association.
