Alma Cameron

Alma Louisa Cameron, 95, of Frontenac, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017. 

Alma was born March 12, 1922, to James and Vera (Bolser) Swope at Carbon Center, MO. In 1941, she graduated as the class Vice President from Cockerill High School. 

On August 23, 1941, she was united in marriage to George H. Cameron in Girard, KS. They were happily married for seventy-three years until George's death March 8, 2015. Alma was a homemaker and was very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and the community of Frontenac, KS. She held memberships in the Rob Morris Chapter #74, Order of Eastern Star, the Frontenac American Legion Auxiliary Unit #43 and the Frontenac United Methodist Church. Alma never missed an opportunity to go on Saturday night dates with George and their best friends the Pettus' and Coleman's. She played cards whenever possible including many games of solitaire each day. George and Alma were named the Outstanding Family in 2005 by Pittsburg State University. 

Alma is survived by her two sons, Richard (Karen) Cameron and Randy (Debbie) Cameron, six grandchildren, Adam (Lindsey) Cameron, James (Kelli) Cameron, Stephanie (Lee) Shradar, Breanna (Ian) Morris, Brooke (Steve) Belcher and Rachel (Matt) Chick, five great-grandchildren, Adison and Brekyn Cameron and Vera and Eisley Shradar and Cameron Chick. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Wilma Jean Smardo. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers (Frank and Eddie Swope), a daughter, Alma Jean Cameron Peterson and a granddaughter, Robin Davera Maddox. 

A service for Alma is set for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Pastor Annie Ricker conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m., until 11:00 a.m., at the Brenner Mortuary, on Saturday. The family suggests memorials to the Frontenac United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
