Monte Samuelson

Monte Duveen Samuelson, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 31, 2018. Monte died in Pittsburg, Kansas, where he and his wife, Dorreen had made their home for the last 5 years.

Monte was born February 22, 1930, in Julesburg, Colorado. The family home was in old Lemoyne, Nebraska, until the Kingsley Dam was built, and the town of Lemoyne was moved to the current location when Monte was about 10 years old. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1947 and was a member of the Army National Guard from 1948 through 1954.

Monte married Dorreen Stuehm on September 14, 1952, in Ogallala, Nebraska. Monte and Dorreen, together with his parents operated Samuelson's Resort until they retired in 1997. Monte was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to travel with Dorreen. He was known far and wide for his many stories about fishing and hunting, but most of all his love for his Lord and Savior and his family.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Lillian Samuelson and a great grandson, Owen Samuelson.

Survivors include sons Larry (Ellen) Samuelson, Mike (Aura) Samuelson, Ron (Clinta) Samuelson; grandchildren Matthew Samuelson (Jessica), Sean Samuelson (Katie), Sara Baird (Robert), Toby Samuelson (Elly), and Jessica Kline (Chris) and 15 great grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday (April 6) at the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg, KS, with Chaplain Ron Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery in Frontenac, KS. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Brenner Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Martin Bay Community Church, Lemoyne, NE. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
