Jerry Mason

Jerry Leon Mason, 78 of Pittsburg, KS, died April 1, 2018 at his home following a short illness.

He was born September 28, 1939 in Ft. Scott, KS the son of William Floyd and Una Marie (Craig) Mason.

On July 16, 1962 he was united in marriage to Elsie L. Zimmerman in Ft. Scott; she survives of the home.

Jerry entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and retired in 1998. He was part of the First Cavalry in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Jerry was a lifetime member of the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post #64, Pittsburg, KS and the VFW Post #7641 New London, IA. Jerry was very active in the Military Honors program through the American Legion for many years. He and team members have provided countless Honors for fallen Veterans across Southeast Kansas.

Additional survivors include a son Gary Leon Mason and his wife Tabitha of Topeka, KS a daughter Deborah Lavon (Mason) O’Dell and husband Michael of Pittsburg; Along with 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Cheryl Lynn Mason, two sisters: a twin sister Jean Mason and Frances Applegate, and a grandson James O’Dell.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Bob Banks Officiating. Inurnment of his cremains will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour before the services on Thursday from 10 am to 11am. Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com. Memorials may be made to the SEK Humane Society; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion will provide Military Honors at the funeral home. Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home Pittsburg, KS
