Paul Gerwert

Paul W. Gerwert, 82, of Frontenac, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Via Christi Village.

He was born April 9, 1936 at Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Henry William and Merle (Hawley) Gerwert.

He attended area schools, graduating from St. Mary's High School with the class of 1955. In 1958 Paul was drafted in the United States Army and honorably discharged in 1960. He then served in the Army Reserves from 1961 to 1964.

On August 10, 1963, he was united in marriage to Judith Terlip at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on October 3, 2015.

Paul worked at the family owned business G&B meat supply from 1955 to 1970, Hull and Dillon from 1970 to 1973, McNally Manufacturing from 1975 to 1988. He then worked at Pitt Plastics from 1989 to 2001 before retiring.

Membership was held in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by a daughter, Paula Nusbaum and her husband, Joseph Dennis of Pittsburg; a son Paul D. Gerwert and his wife, Shannon of Frontenac; three grandchildren, Rachel Lavery and her husband, Adam, Ryan Nusbaum and Reese Nusbaum; two step-grandchildren Mackenzie Dye and her husband Josh and Seth McGuire; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Liam Lavery; and four step-great-grandchildren, Alexis Norris, Alivia Ascanio, Abram Dye, and Amelia Dye.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Maurice Gerwert.

A service for Mr. Gerwert will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (Nov 16) at the Brenner Mortuary with Father Philip J. Voegeli. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the Angels Among Us. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
