JoAnn Couch

JoAnn Couch, 87, of Parsons, passed away at 2:35 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons.

She was born on August 4, 1931 Fort Worth, Texas to Elza Martin and Lillian Lorene (Williams) Phillebaum. The family moved to Chetopa where she grew up and attended schools graduating from Chetopa High School in 1950.

JoAnn and Everett Lee Couch, Sr. were united in marriage on September 6, 1950 at Vinita, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2010.

JoAnn moved to Parsons where she worked at Adventure Line, Grandview Cabinets, and at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant from where she retired. She also worked part time at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and for USD 503 in the middle school cafeteria.

She enjoyed reading her Bible, watching religious programs, cooking, baking, going to the beauty shop, shopping, taking care of her dog, “Corky”, and helping take care of her grandchildren. She was an active and faithful member of the Parsons Foursquare Church where she attended Sunday School.

She is survived by her son, Everett L. Couch Jr., and his wife, Rhonda of Parsons; her daughter, Debora Wolverton, and her husband, Ronnie of Parsons; two grandchildren, Greg Couch, and his wife, Talya of Parsons and Tony Caylor of Pittsburg; four great-grandchildren, Anthony Caylor, Heaven Caylor, Savannah Couch, and Lylah Couch; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Thomas Phillebaum and her sister, Opal Maxine Kellogg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Schulze officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakhill Cemetery at Chetopa. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday.
