Colleen Dundee

Colleen Marie Dundee, 79, of Frontenac, KS, passed away at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Medicalodges of Pittsburg.

She was born to on January 28, 1939, to Michael Dundee, Sr. and Agnes (Roberts) Dundee at Melrose Park, Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Girard High School in 1957, Pittsburg School of Cosmetology in 1958 and Office Training and Assessment Program at Washburn University in 1993.

She was united in marriage to Scotty Bitner in 1958, and later divorced. Colleen worked in several local hair salons in Pittsburg including the Regis Beauty Salon and Rowden’s. She relocated to Topeka and worked nine years at the State Department of Human Resources as an Employment Counselor. She accepted a position with Heartland Works as an Employment Specialist in the implementation of The Federal Workforce Investment Act where she worked eleven years until her retirement in 2009. Colleen enjoyed watching KU basketball, the Chiefs, the Gorillas, and playing cards with friends.

She was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Organization and the COPD Support Group where she served as Program Coordinator. Colleen considered her greatest accomplishment was raising her children who she loved dearly.

She is survived by her three children, Michael Bitner (Lori), Frontenac; Joseph Bitner, Pittsburg; Kay Baden (Andrew) Lawrence; and seven grandchildren; Brooke Bitner, Katelyn Bitner, Joseph (Joey) Bitner, Jackie Bitner, Zach Baden, Josh Baden and Abby Baden. She also leaves her sister Eldora Dundee, special cousin Keith Dunahee and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her mother and step father Agnes and William Russell, father and step mother Michael and Jane Dundee Jr. and grandson Scotty Michael Bitner.


Cremation has taken place and no services are planned per Colleen’s wishes. If you wish, donations may be made to the Prader-Willi Syndrome Research Foundation, St Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Frontenac United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
